Latter-day Saints church begins service project

Essikadu (W/R) Sept. 22, GNA - Bishop Jones Aidoo, Bishop of the Sekondi Ward of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints said service to society must be the hallmark of all churches. He said Christian churches must demonstrate practical help and support for the needy, organizations and the poor in society. Bishop Aidoo said these when the church launched its Service Africa Project at Essikadu near Sekondi on Saturday.

He said the project was instituted by the Church to help institutions through clean-up exercises.

Bishop Aidoo said the church hoped to instill the practice of support for society, in the youth as they grow up. In a related development some members of the Church also undertook similar exercise at the Effia Nkwanta, European and Kwesiministim hospitals.

Mr Emmanuel Botwe, Community Relations Manager of the church said the exercise will continue to be an annual event and will aim at assisting society.

He said it was sad that most of the hospitals had only a limited number of staff to perform cleaning and other sanitation works within the hospitals.

Mr Botwe therefore appealed to other organizations to support the various hospitals in their environmental and sanitation programmes.
