Truth is necessary for growth and development - Reverend Campbell

Accra, Oct. 1, GNA - Reverend Father Andrew Campbell, Parish Priest of Christ the King Catholic Church in Accra at the week-end said truth was necessary in the growth and development of any developing nation. He said every country needed trustworthy and honest leadership to be a= t the forefront of its developmental agenda.

Rev. Father Campbell made the observation at a Special Church Service to begin the 54th Legal Year, 2011-2012 on the theme: 93Access to Justice - The Citizens' Participation in the Administration of Justice" in Accra. Currently, the courts in Ghana are the Supreme Court, Court of Appeal and the High Court, forming the Superior Courts while the Lower Courts comprise the Circuit and District Courts.

Rev. Father Campbell called on Ghanaians to be more patriotic and sacrifice for the improvement and development of the country, and honesty should guide all and sundry in their endeavours.

He noted that most institutions in the country had not lived up to expectation in their operations because of dishonesty.

Rev. Father Campbell pointed out that most Ghanaians had sold their conscience to enrich themselves and called on the Judiciary to refrain from acts that would prevent people from accessing justice. He called on lawyers, judges, magistrates and other judicial staff to stand up for the truth, saying 93Our hunger for the truth should vindicate us." "Sell your pride, selfishness and bad habits to acquire God's bles= sing and guidelines," he added. Rev. Father Campbell thanked God for the prevailing peace and democratic rule in the country, and called on Ghanaians to live up to expectation to maintain the peace.
