Tema Chief urges religious leaders to preach peace for the election

Manhean, Nov 15, GNA - The Chief of Tema, Nii Adjei Kraku II, on Saturday called on religious leaders to preach for incident free election to enable the nation to continue to enjoy her peace. He urged Ghanaians, especially politicians, to resist any attempt to cause trouble and rather resort to the appropriate quarters to seek redress in order not to portray wrong impression about the nation to the outside world.

Nii Kraku said Ghana had been an example in the sub-region and called for its sustenance and appealed to churches to help achieve this aim by intensifying their prayers for a peaceful and harmonious atmosphere. He made the call when Reverend Theophilus Owusu Bonnah, who is in charge of Tema East District of the Presbyterian Church, called to introduce himself on assumption of office. The chief urged the Reverend Minister to impress on his members to comport themselves and abide by the traditional laws of the land. Leaders of the Saint Nicholas Orthodox Church also paid a courtesy call on Nii Kraku and distributed milk and cheese to over 1,000 children.

The leaders have opened a branch at Tema Manhean and constructed a school that has enrolled 40 children. Ms Deborah Eleazour Tsakos Loud, coordinator, said members of the church would mobilize funds to bring down volunteers to support the local staff of the school. Reverend Bonnah and Ms Loud presented cheques for GH¢200.00 and GH¢100.00 respectively to the educational fund instituted by the Tema Traditional Council. 15 Nov 08
