SDA Church embarks on clean-up campaign

Sunyani, March 1, GNA - Pastor Daniel Oduro-Sarpong, President of th= e Mid-West Conference of the Seventh Day Adventists Church, at the weekend urged members to spearhead the crusade against unsanitary conditions in communities. "Besides seeking the spiritual development of members, the church al= so have the duty to ensure that people live in clean surroundings so they can contribute meaningfully to national development," he said. Pastor Oduro-Sarpong was addressing members of the church on Sunday after they had spent several hours clearing weeds, sweeping and desilting choked gutters around the premises. He said members of the church would join other bodies and organisation= s to undertake a massive clean up exercise in Sunyani Municipality on Saturday. The clean-up, organised by the Regional Co-ordinating Council, forms part of activities to herald the country's 54th Independence Anniversary celebration. "We are all citizens of the country and apart from seeking our spiritual well-being we must also think of our physical development and pla= y our part in the building of the nation," he said. Pastor Oduro-Sarpong called on other religious bodies, groupings and organisations to initiate the regularity of such clean-up exercises since the nation needed healthy citizens to help in the development process. He explained that the SDA, according to its calendar, embarked on clea= n up exercises every three months in the communities and urged other religiou= s bodies to emulate the church to ensure healthy surroundings. Pastor Oduro-Sarpong commended members of the church for their prompt response to participate in the exercise and expressed the hope that they would continue to heed to future calls for such national exercises. He urged them to continue to advise people in their communities to desist from throwing debris into gutters that choked them and results in flooding when it rained. 1
