Reverend Quayson elected new Methodist Bishop of Effiduase

Bodomase (Ash), April 27, GNA - The Very Reverend Moses Quayson, Synod Secretary of the Effiduase Methodist Diocese, was on Saturday elected Bishop of the diocese at an election held at Bodomase near Kumawu in the Sekyere-Afram Plains District of Ashanti.

He polled 86 votes out of the total 115 ballots cast to beat Very Rev Oswald Boakye and Very Rev Samuel Asante-Nnuro, who polled 16 and 13 votes respectively.

The election coincided with the 11th synod of the Effiduase Diocese which was held under the theme: "Christ for the World". Very Rev Quayson succeeds Right Reverend Samuel Agyemang-Kwakye, whose six-year term of office ends next year.

In an address, the newly-elected Bishop promised to abide by the teachings and doctrines of the Methodist Church in the discharge of his duties for the growth of the church. He also promised to liaise with the immediate past Bishop to enable the Church to complete all development projects which were in progress.

Very Rev Quayson said he would explore all avenues to resource the Church in training the youth to acquire employable skills to better their living standards so that they could effectively contribute to the development of the Church.

Bishop Agyemang-Kwakye commended the synod members for the dedication exhibited to ensure a successful election and pledged to be supportive of the activities of the new Bishop.
