Religious leaders asked to appreciate climate change needs

Ho, Aug. 16, GNA - Mr Charles Agboklu, Coordinator of Religious Bodies Network on Climate Change, Ghana, has challenged religious leaders to integrate climate change needs into programmes of religious organizations. He also asked them to 93act beyond the pulpit or church and Mosques= " and reach out to the grassroots with climate change messages.

Mr Agboklu made the call when he delivered a paper on 93Climate Chang= e - The Role of Development Partners and Religious Bodies in Africa", at a two-day sensitization workshop on the management of ECO-Clubs in schools, for some selected teachers, in Ho.

The Eco-Clubs project is an initiative of the Evangelical Presbyterian (E.P) Church, aimed at encouraging school children to appreciate and take good care of nature and the environment.

Mr Agboklu said religious organizations had significant roles to play in the preservation of the environment. He said 93Advocacy is an area where religious bodies can be strong an= d effective towards the preservation of the environment. You can use videos, drama and information brochures developed in local languages. Reverend Godwin Osiakwa, Clerk of the General Assembly of the E.P Church, called on all Ghanaians to participate in programmes aimed at protecting the environment.
