Presbyterian Church launches Channel of Hope TV programme

Accra, Oct. 17, GNA - Presbyterian Church of Ghana (PCG) on Wednesday launched its maiden television programme meant to address the holistic and spiritual needs to transform society. The television programme dubbed: "Channel Of Hope" forms part of the church's evangelism mission of achieving 10 per cent annual membership growth for the church

The Rev. Emmanuel Darkwa, Acting Moderator, PCG, who performed the launch, noted that the TV Ministry had been on the church's drawing board for a long time.

He said the programme was a well researched and mature spiritual product that would meet the needs of its members and the Christian community.

Rev. Darkwa said, "Channel Of Hope" was centred on the day-to-day Christian life experiences and encounters to serve as a model around which Christians and non-Christians alike would build their lives in Christ. He said global economic condition and its impact on Africans had made several Christians to doubt the power of God and the programme would act as a fort to build Christian confidence and tenacity to enhance their spiritual growth. Rev. Darkwa said lack of control and censorship of programmes on the screens had resulted in many acts of nudity and obscenity among the youths and urged government to partner churches to work hard to stop the situation. "Our appeal therefore to corporate institutions is that it should rather invest in character building and discipline oriented programmes such as Channel of Hope," he said. Mr Dominic Ansah-Asare, Chairperson of the PCG TV Ministry Committee, said the programme came in four seasons. The first season had thirteen episodes, which would include drama, panel discussion, public opinion, interviews, documentary and songs. He said the programme, which starts airing on October 20 at 1330 hours on TV3, would also be available on DVDs, CDs and on the church's website for interested persons to purchase. Mr Ansah Asare said counselling centres had also been established to help people in that regard. An eight-member committee was inaugurated to ensure effective management of the programme.

The members are Mr Dominic Ansah-Asare, Chairperson, The Rev. Godfried Bamfo, Mr Yaw Frempong Boakye, Matilda Asante, George Martinson, S. A. Newman, Emmanuel Acheampong and The Rev. Kofi Antwi.
