Political leaders should focus on God for success - Evangelist

Accra, April 24, GNA - Dr. Lawrence Tetteh, founder of the World Miracle Outreach Ministries, on Thursday advised all presidential hopeful to be mindful of their divine and social responsibilities to the people in order to ensure prosperity for the nation.

He was speaking at a press conference to commemorate the upcoming University of Ghana Christian Fellowship Prayer Fest for political party leaders on Election 2008.

Dr. Tetteh noted that the importance of this year's election could not be overemphasized particularly if it was considered against the background of elections that had torn apart other nations in Africa. "We as a nation must count ourselves blessed by God for having succeeded where others have failed." He said it was also important for all stakeholders such as the Electoral Commission and political parties not to be complacent in any aspect of preparations towards the elections but rather let decency and decorum prevail.

Dr. Tetteh observed that electioneering campaign periods were when people seeking political office consulted all forms of evil forces instead of putting their trust and confidence in God. Making reference to the scriptures, Dr. Tetteh said ruler-ship was ordained by God and for this reason aspirants must constantly be aware that it was God who made "kings and He would choose whoever He wishes". "My appeal to the leadership of political parties is to avoid those negative practices that are bound to bring curses not only upon themselves but, also the nation as a whole. That, to me is one of the surest ways of guaranteeing transparent, free and fair election we all aspire for."
