Housewife before tribunal for allegedly causing harm

Kumasi (Ashanti Region) 11 Nov. '98 A Kumasi Circuit Tribunal has granted five million cedis bail to Yaa Boadiwaah, a housewife who appeared before it for allegedly causing harm to Ms Lucy Wiredu, a hairdresser at Nyankyerenease, near Kumasi.

She pleaded guilty to the charge and the tribunal chaired by Mr Joseph A. Abanga, adjourned the case to Thursday, December three to enable families of the parties involved in the case to settle it out of court and report to the court.

Police Chief Inspector Fabian K. Afesi, told the tribunal that sometime this year, Lucy confronted Yaa for having an affair with her (Lucy's) husband who is a soldier.

He said Yaa did not take kindly to the confrontation which resulted in a fight but they were separated.

The prosecutor said in the evening of September 20, this year, while Lucy and a friend were eating, Yaa together, with some of her relatives, went to Lucy's house.

He said unknown to Lucy, Yaa was armed with a blade and before she could open her mouth, Yaa inflicted a wound on her right cheek.

Lucy was taken to the Suntreso Police Station where Yaa also went to make a report against Lucy for allegedly assaulting her. Both of them were given medical forms to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) and after investigations Yaa was charged with the offence.
