Muslims in Winneba mark Eid-Ul-Fitr

Thousands of Muslims in the Effutu Municipality led by Alhaji Mohammed Monsuri Issah, a Muslim leader, held a two-hour prayer at their traditional prayer grounds at Kokobem to commemorate the Ramadan.

They prayed for continued peace and tranquility in the country, and for stability of the economy.

Very Reverend Eldad Bonney, immediate past Presiding Member (PM) of the Effutu Municipal Assembly on behalf of the President John Mahama, commended the Muslims for going through the 30 days fasting and prayers without problems.

He hoped the blessings and grace they had received during the fasting, would benefit the entire people of the country.

Very Rev. Bonney said the government was committed to provide the needed development to the people.

He urged the people to make positive contributions towards the development of their various communities.

He stated that Islam was peaceful religion, and therefore appealed to Muslim to desist from acts that could mar the image of the religion.

The former PM mentioned the construction of ICT centres, a Modern Abattoir, pavements on the main lorry park, as some development projects the Assembly had undertaken in Winneba.

He said a community Senior High School was to be constructed at Effutu Ateitu near Winneba by the government.

Later in an interview with the Ghana News Agency, Mr. Alex Afenyo Markin, Member of Parliament for Effutu, congratulated the Muslims for a successful fasting, and appealed to them to continue to pray for peace and development in the country.
