Moderator calls for selfless leadership

Accra, Dec. 22, GNA - The Right Reverend Dr. Yaw Frimpong-Manso, Moderator of the General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana, on Tuesday urged Ghanaians to give adequate support to "our leaders irrespective of our political differences" to ensure a peaceful national development. He further called on citizens to rise up and demonstrate a high level of commitment towards uprooting bribery and corruption, dehumanization and marginalization of people, political incorrectness, greediness and divisions of all kinds. "Let us as a nation create a better welfare system that will take good care of the weak and vulnerable in society," he said in his Christmas and New Year message to Ghanaians.

Dr. Frimpong-Manso speaking on the theme: "Christ, the True Model of Leadership", also called on the leadership of the country to model Christ's leadership of just and peace with integrity and fairness. "We need leaders who will emerge from humble beginnings yet allow the spirit of the Lord to use them to fulfill their leadership mandate for the good of all the people they lead." The Moderator, whose tenure of office ends officially on December 1 next year, stressed that Ghana needed leaders who refused to abuse privileges, avoided wrongdoing and who set good example in character as well as know where to look for rewards.

Dr. Frimpong-Manso said the significance of Christmas was to show love, care and concern to the needy and vulnerable in society as well as cooperating as a nation to "re-build the broken walls of our society". "Christmas is one occasion that shall never lose its essence no matter the circumstances we find ourselves in; it is a period of giving and so those who have worked well throughout the year deserve better pay and bonuses," he said.

He therefore called on government, corporate bodies and all employers to adequately compensate their workers based on their productivity levels.
