Methodist church launches youth dev’t plan

The Sekondi Diocese of the Methodist Church has launched a youth development plan to provide a framework for economic transformation of young people as well as training them in the doctrines of the Church to enable them to make them to contribute to the nation's socio-economic development.

The development plan, which is tied to the Church's vision and mission of promoting spiritual growth and physical development of young people, will also help to build a vibrant and spirit-led young men and women for the good of society.

Launching the plan the Bishop of the Sekondi Diocese Methodist Church, Rt. Rev. Edward Ofori Donkor said the plan was to help raise capable young people of integrity to become agents of change in the face of widespread of social decay through sound teachings and practices.

Rt. Rev. Donkor emphasized the need for the church to critically appraise children and youth ministries/development activities in order to provide meaningful programmes of challenge, inspirational teaching and training for effective Christian formation hence the development of the plan.

“The young person must be helped to have a balanced life, a well-rounded, mature, adjusted, useful life with direction and purpose and this can be achieved only through Jesus Christ,” he said.

The Chairman of the Coordinating Office for Education and Youth Development, Mr. Ebenzer A. Kwaitoo, said there was the need for proper teachings and programmes that could help young people to meet their physical, mental, social and spiritual needs in order to positively contribute to the nation's socio-economic transformation.

He said there would be training of youth leaders, Sunday School teachers, Brigade officers, Girls’ Fellowship caretakers and other youth workers to equip them with knowledge and to impart it to others.
