Concern raised about keeping of PLWHS at prayer camps

Nyinahin, (Ash), Feb.19, GNA - Concern has been expressed about the keeping of People Living with HIV/AIDS (PLWHS), at some prayer camps instead of sending them to hospital. The practice is thwarting efforts being made to reduce the spread of the disease, especially through retroviral drugs and support services. Mr Joseph Nabin, Executive Secretary of Good African Woman Foundation (GAWF), a non-governmental organisation (NGO), operating in Atwima-Mponua District of Ashanti, made the observation through GNA. He appealed to owners of prayer camps keeping such people to refer them to health facilities for proper care and counselling. Mr Nabin said the NGO was currently offering free counselling and HIV/AIDS test in the district and appealed to the public to have compassion for PLWHS.
