Church members advised to desist from indulging in smoking and alcoholintake

Accra, Feb. 21, GNA - The Second Minister-In-Charge of the Presbyterian Church of Resurrection, The Reverend Mrs Rose Abbey, has called on Ghanaians to desist from smoking and taking alcohol to maintain their health status and to increase productivity.

The Rev. Abbey said this would not only increase productivity but would also save them from paying huge medical bills that was associated with diseases caused by smoking and alcohol. The Minister in Charge was speaking at the end of a health Walk organized by the Ga Presbytery Youth of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana in Accra on Saturday.

The Walk which was under the theme "Fighting Alcoholism the role of the Presbyterian Youth", started from the premises of the Church of Resurrection through some principal streets of Accra and ended at the Max Dodu Presbyterian church at Lartebiokorshie.

About 2,000 participants took part in the event as they carried placards some of which read 'Alcohol is dangerous', Stay from alcohol and live longer' and 'Nsa sei Nipa dua'. The Walk was aimed at creating awareness on the effects of alcohol and the need for the public and members to stay away from its usage. Mr Ernest Quartey, Youth Zonal Chairman of the Church said the church would continue to preach the message through organization of frequent walks.
