Church calls on government to establish acceptable educational system

Ho, Aug. 9, GNA - The Global Evangelical Church (GEC), on Sunday called on government to establish an acceptable educational system in the country.

It said such a move should take into consideration the structure, content and duration of schooling to prevent uncertainty and guarantee proper planning of education in the country. These were contained in a communiqu=E9 issued by the Church at the end of its 68th Synod that was on theme: "Faithful Stewardship: the Key to Divine Blessing", in Ho. The event was attended by the President John Evans Atta Mills, Mr. Joseph Amenorwode, Volta Regional Minister, Ms Ekua Sena Dansua, Minister of Women and Children's Affairs, Parliamentarians, District and Municipal Chief Executives from the region and other government officials.

The Synod urged government and other stakeholders to ensure judicious and transparent management of the recent oil and gas discovered in the country to the benefit of the people. The communiqu=E9 also called on the government to ensure proper use of roads in the country to avoid accidents on the roads. Synod commended government for making the effort in overcoming the sanitation challenges in the major cities of the country. It called on Christians and religious organisations to lead the crusade against the elimination of bad sanitation practices to keep our environments clean.

The Church commended the Ghana Police Service and other security services in their effort at combating armed robbery, drug trafficking and other criminal activities.

It, however, appealed to them to exhibit high sense of professionalism in the discharge of their duties. Synod noted that occultism and satanic practices for the purpose of getting rich overnight were creeping into the Ghanaian society. The communiqu=E9 called on parents, churches and other religious bodies, educational authorities and the National Union of Ghana Students as a matter of urgency adopt strategies to stop these acts. It called on the public office holders to be faithful stewards for the spiritual and material prosperity of the country. The communiqu=E9 urged government to enact laws on political transition of power to avoid confusion and acrimony during change of government.

It called on the Christian community to pray for God's guidance of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) administration in its effort to unite and develop the country in the face of challenging global economic circumstances. 9 Aug 09
