Christian Council of Ghana to pray for peaceful elections

Odumase (Ash), Aug. 6, GNA - The Christian Council of Ghana would between September 29 and October 5 this year organise a national prayer festival to seek God's intervention for a peaceful elections on December 7.

The Right Reverend Dr Yaw Frimpong-Manso, Chairman of the Council, who disclosed this, said the week-long programme would be followed by a Thanksgiving Service to express gratitude to God for seeing the nation through her political and socio-economic endeavours over the years. He was speaking at the commemoration of the 115th Anniversary of the Odumase branch of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana (PCG) in the Asante-Akim Municipality of Ashanti.

It was on the theme "Attaining Spiritual Maturity - the Role of the Church".

Right Rev Frimpong-Manso, also the Moderator of the PCG, condemned the allegations and counter allegations that had plagued the on-going registration exercise.

He urged politicians and party activists to exercise restraint for the successful execution of the exercise since the nation had come a long way in consolidating her democracy. The Moderator said the exercise was not for violence and vandalism but designed to enable Ghanaians who had attained 18 years and above to register to ensure that they exercised their franchise in the December polls.

Right Rev Frimpong-Manso called on Christians to renew their dedication and commitment to the tasks of stewardship, intervention on behalf of the weak, poor, oppressed and voiceless especially in areas relating to law, social justice and liberty. He said they should be constantly concerned about the protection and security of the people and fight against any form of abuse of social justice, discrimination and dehumanization. 06 Aug. 08
