Bishop exhorts parents to cut down on pleasures

Masu (B/A), Aug. 8, GNA - Most Reverend Matthew Kwasi Gyamfi, Catholic Bishop of Sunyani, has entreated parents to cut down on their social pleasures and rather, channel their resources into the education of their children.

He noted that, though pleasures and emotional satisfaction formed vital components of man's life on earth, the current global economy required parents to forego the expensive aspects of these attributes, to be able to protect and defend the future of their children.

The Catholic Bishop made the call when he delivered the keynote address at the maiden Speech and prize giving Day of Delany Academy, a Catholic basic school, founded by the Patrician Brothers, at Masu near Dormaa Ahenkro.

The school, the brainchild of Bishop Gyamfi, seeks to expand to the High School level and has a comprehensive syllabus, covering both classroom and out-of-school activities, geared towards the child's total development for the future.

Bishop Gyamfi noted the enormity of the task of good parenting and assured parents and guardians that God would never disappoint any kind-hearted parents, who would expend their hard-earned resources on the welfare and development of their children.

"Children are society's greatest assets and deserve to be moulded in a way they will not grow to regret their coming onto this earth", he said.

Rev. Father William Kyere, Parish Priest in charge St Francis de Sales Catholic Church in Dormaa Ahenkro, commended the chiefs and elders of Masu for donating land for the school project and urged well-meaning individuals and agencies in the area to follow their example.

The school children entertained the parents with poems, dance, choral music and drama, while those who excelled in various disciplines were presented with prizes.
