Be channels of change for development - Moderator EPC

The Right Reverend Francis Amenu, Moderator of the General Assembly of the Evangelical Presbyterian Church (EPC), has called on Christians to be channels of change for economic growth and development.

He said Christians must not only be good listeners of the word of God, but they should emulate Jesus Christ, who was the gift of God.

The Moderator said these at a thanksgiving service of the EPC West Volta Presbytery Men’s Fellowship’s (WVPMF) 14th annual conference in Accra.

The three-day annual conference was on the theme: “Strategic Evangelism for Sustainable Growth and Development”.

Delivering the sermon on the theme: “Be channels of Truth and Holiness”, Rev. Amenu asked Christians to lead lives worthy of honour and obedience to God.

He said Christians as conduits should be instruments and blessing not only to their families but to the entire world.

Rev. Amenu said that the EPC needed to grow to be able to support government to bring reforms especially in the educational sector.

He said that the theme for the annual conference “Strategic Evangelism for Sustainable Growth and Development,” was appropriate as the church needed to grow to enhance socio-economic development.

Rev. Amenu appealed to members of the church “to avail themselves as tools to be used in the Lord’s vineyard” so that the church could stand on its own and not depend solely on foreign donors.

He said “more health institutions needed to be built so that members of our communities would be healthy and work effectively for the country’s socio-economic growth”.

Rev. Amenu called for the promotion of agriculture to create more jobs for the people, especially the youth, and challenged the WVPMF to get involved in the provision of social services that would help change the lives of people.

He also appealed to members to participate in the biometric voters’ register exhibition to enable them to vote in December.

Dr Oakley Quaye – Kuma, Deputy Minister for Roads and Highways, noted that the EPC had been at the forefront of a wave of evangelism and commended the founding fathers of the church for their vision to focus on evangelism.

He urged church leaders to seek the welfare and development of their followers.

Rev Lordson Joseph Kwadzo Dzakpasu, former Synod Clerk and District Pastor of the Bubiashie EPC, was presented with a citation as an expression of gratitude for his commitment to the church.
