Ghana Squash Association inaugurated

The youth have been called upon to take the game of squash seriously and sustain it so that it does not die a natural death.

Mr Kweku Kyei, a Member of Council of State, made the call at the inauguration of the Ghana Squash Association in Accra on Saturday.

It was under the theme: 'Rebuilding Ghana Squash'.

Mr Kyei said the game which used to be one of the most popular sports in the country in the late 70's is dying gradually due to the non-participation by the youth.

He charged the association to work extra hard by generating interest in the game and also to revive all clubs in the country.

Nana Awuah Darko Ampem the First, Board Chairman of Vanguard Assurance Company Limited who chaired the function said every business has an element of difficulties and squash cannot be left out in this direction.

He said even though the association may face challenges in their bid to revive the game, it is only through hard work that they could succeed.

Nana Darko Ampem called on the members not to shirk their responsibilities but to strive hard and generated interest in the game.

Mr Francis Johnson, the Head Coach, said the aim of the association is to promote the game across the country.

He said the association plans to organise league matches to unearth talents and train them for the national team.

He appealed to corporate bodies and institutions to help develop the sport.
