Ghana Swimming Association to honour ex-service men

Theophilus Wilson Edzie, President of the Ghana Swimming Association (GSA), has said his outfit will institutionalized the national “Cross Roads Military Championship” as part of efforts to develop the sports and honour ex-service personnel.

He told the media in an interview after the maiden edition of the championship, which was organized at the Burma Camp Swimming Pool to mark the 28th February Christiansburg Crossroads shooting incident.

The president said the Association deems it appropriate to honour ex-servicemen who were killed during an attempt to present a petition to the Colonial Governor at the Nationalism Park at Osu, Accra in 1948.

“Henceforth it is going to be an annual event, which will be held in February”.

The competition saw the teams from the Ghana Navy, University of Ghana – Legon and the Tesano Dolphins competing for honours in individual and team events such as 50m breaststroke, 50m freestyle, 50m backstroke, 50m butterfly, 100m Freestyle, 100m breaststroke, 4x50m freestyle relays and 4x50m freestyle relays (mixed) for different age categories. .

National swimmers such as Abeiku Jackson, Yakubu Ibrahim, Ophelia Swayne, Zenobia Addo, Kwesi Abbiw Jackson, and Kwaku Addo thrilled fans with excellent swimming skills.
