Oguaa Member of Parliament supports disabled basketball team

Cape Coast, May 31, GNA - The Member of Parliament (MP) for Cape Coast, Mr Ebo Barton-Odro has donated 10 wheelchairs specially designed for members of the disabled basketball team in the Cape Coast Metropolis.

The donation was made at the weekend in fulfillment of part of the MP's vision to assist the disabled to develop their potentials and live meaningful lives.

Mr Barton-Odro made the presentation at a brief ceremony at the Cape Coast Jubilee Park where a basketball pitch is being renovated for the training of the team. He also pledged to use part of his share of the District Assembly's Common Fund to complete the renovation works for the disabled to compete not only on regional basis but internationally. The MP expressed concern that most of the facilities in the country were not disability friendly, and gave the assurance that the government would ensure that suitable facilities were provided for them to aid their easy access to venues.

Mr Barton-Odro said the donation was in fulfillment of an appeal made to him by members of the basketball team requesting for suitable wheelchairs to enable them play the sports better and commended his younger brother for helping to get the wheelchairs through a U.K based NGO.

He said the Parliamentary Sub-Committee on Sports, which he is a member were in the process of getting a disabled team to participate in a world tournament and urged the team to train harder to qualify for the event.

The MP was full of praise for the exploits of the team after they played two matches later and commended the coach for his efforts saying 93the standard was quite high". 31 May 11
