150 golfers to vie for GCB trophy

About 150 amateur golfers will assemble at the Achimota Golf Course in Accra to vie for this year's Ghana Commercial Bank Limited (GCB) Golf Championship trophy on Saturday, November 29.

Mr Samuel Adetola, Captain of the Achimota Golf Club who announced this in Accra on Tuesday, said the one-day 18-hole Stableford competition is open to golfers from Achimota, Tema, Celebrity and the Bok Nam Kim golf clubs.

He said the event, as usual, would be played under the rules of the Royal Ancient Golf Club of Scotland and the local rules of the Achimota Golf Club.

Mr Adetola said the club would use the event to assess their battle readiness for the international competition between the club and the Ikoyi Golf Club of Nigeria scheduled for Achimota later in the year.

Wakiki Ankrah, the CAL Merchant Bank cup holder, has pledged to add the GCB trophy to his collections.

Five prizes would be awarded in the Men's category while three will go to the Ladies.
