First Atlantic Bank to partner Celebrity Golf Club to promote sport

One Of Ghana fast growing financial institutions, First Atlantic Bank Ltd, has pledged to support the growth and development of golf in the country by partnering the Celebrity Golf Club (CGC), Sakumonu in this direction.

It is the ambition of the Bank in ensuring the sport grows to attain the heights of the most popular and followed ones in Ghana and this, they have committed to do.

Managing Director of the Bank, Gabriel Edgal announced this on Saturday at the hosting of a 20th anniversary invitational golf tourney held o the greens of the CGC, Sakumonu.

Mr. Edgal said his outfit plans to make this competition an annual affair on the calendar of the Club which hopefully would aid in the development of the sport.

The bank also announced that it would support in the expansion of facilities at the club including maintaining a modern Club House.

Captain of the CGC, Francis Akwasi Opoku welcomed the idea of partnership from the bank and believed that the two brands would work together to impact positively on the sport in Ghana.

The one-day 18-Hole competition attracted amateur golfers from all over Ghana and beyond with Akwasi Opoku and Leticia Amponsah-Mensah winning the topmost prizes in the men and ladies categories respectively.

The CGC Captain carded a close of play net score of 73 to beat Ole Arouseu on the count-back whilst Anthony Appiah finished third in Men Group A with 74. Amponsah-Mensah, who also won the ladies longest drive, won her category with a net score of 71 to beat Mona Myers-Lamptey, 72 and Margaret Anderson, 76, to second and third positions respectively.

In the Men Group B category, Benano Mimis scored a net of 67 to win ahead of Mike Zhang, 69 and Paul Oudiwah 72.

Cathy Boateng won the ladies B category with a net of 72 with Afua Konadu, 76 second and Joyce Arouseu, 79 third.
