Tagboto wins Tyerman Memorial Golf

Accra, April 5, GNA-Benee Tagboto returned a net score of 63, to win the maiden David Tyerman Memorial Open Golf Championship played at the Bok Nam Kim Golf Course at the Air Force Officers Mess in Accra on Saturday.

He was followed in the second position by Group Captain Gyimah Kwakye who beat Dan Dennis on count-back after they had both returned a 66 net score. Sam Nwako came first in the Handicap 19-38 encounter with 61 net, S. Oteng took the second position with 60 net, while Omane Frempong placed third with 61 net.

In the Ladies segment, Ann Brown came first with 59 net, Esi Cobbina took the second position with 60 net while Esther Amedzro placed third with 64 net.

The one-day event, which was in memory of David Tyerman, a senior member of the Bok Nam Kim Golf Club who died in the year 2008, was co-sponsored by West Africa Rescue, Ghana Textiles Printing and Fishnog Fast Foods.

The event attracted about 100 participants from Achimota, Tema, Bok Nam Kim and Celebrity Golf Clubs. Lieutenant-Colonel Larry Gbevlo-Lartey, (Rtd) Captain of the Bok Nam Kim Golf Club described the late Mr Tyerman as an ardent golfer whose contribution had made the club what it is today. He called on the members to emulate him for the development and promotion of the sport. Lt-Col. Gbevlo Lartey said plans were far advanced for the Bok Nam Kim Golf Club to construct an 18-Hole Golf Course and Kids Academy and called on members to offer the necessary support for the project. Mrs. Patience Tyerman, wife of the late Mr. Tyerman was present at the function.
