Torgah wins Bok Nam Kim Memorial Golf

Tema, April 27, GNA - Francis Torgah of the Achimota Golf Club returned a net score of 61 to win the 13th Annual Bok Nam Kim Memorial Open Golf Championship played at the Tema Country Golf Course on Saturday.

Torgah who played 34 Back and 31 Front with a Handicap of 4, beat a field of 120 golfers to clinch victory.

He was followed by Richard Cofie who lost two strokes to Torgah by returning 63 net score, Keteku Dickson placed third with 64 net, while Park Jin Ha took the fourth position with 66 net, beating John Wattenberg on count-back.

Veteran Mona Captan won the Ladies category with 70 net with Beatrice Vetsce-Bempong coming second with 72 net, while Francisca Vandyck took the third position with 73 net, beating K.S. Lee on count-back.

S.K. Klah emerged champion in the Professionals event with 68 gross with L.A. Ayisah taking the second position with 69 gross, Kojo Tee placed third with 70 gross while E. K. Osei placed fourth with 71 gross.

The one-day 18-Hole Stable-ford competition opened to both amateur and professional golfers was sponsored by Afko Group of Companies. The championship is in memory of the late Bok Nam Kim, former chief Executive of Afko Group of Companies who single-handedly sponsored Ghana's contingent to the 1988 Olympic Games in Seoul, Korea. Bok Nam Kim who was also the former President of the Tema Country Golf Club died in 1995.

Mr Felix Owusu-Adjapong, Minister of Energy described the late Mr Kim as a man whose contribution has gone a long way in making the Club what it is today.

He called on members of the Club to emulate the shining example of the late Mr Kim.

Mr S. A. C. Chun, Chief Executive Officer of Afko Group of Companies gave the assurance that his company would continue to sponsor the event in the ensuing years.

He presented a cheque of 1,500 Ghana Cedis to the Club.
