Cobbina wins Ecobank golf

Accra, Jan. 11, GNA - John Cobbina, former Captain of Tema Golf Club scored 40 points to win the 15th Annual Ecobank Golf championship played at the Achimota Golf Course in Accra over the weekend. Cobbina, a Handicap 14 player, who collected 16 points in and 24 points out, to emerge champion of the event for the first time, would now play to a new Handicap of 12.

S. Murligah came second with 39 points, beating Edward Addy on countback, while David Atuwo placed fourth with 37 points also beating Nana Agyei Duku and P.L. MacCauley on countback.

Suzie Mapuranga won the Ladies event with 42 points, Francisca Vandybck placed second with 39 points, beating Victoria Apomasu and Margaret Anderson on countback while Adelaide Owusu-Adjapong placed fifth with 37 points.

John Mawuli won the Professionals category with 139 gross; Emos Korblah was second with 142 gross. D.K. Doe came third with 144 gross while Paul Dossey placed fifth with 148 gross.

The one-day 128-hole stableford competition opened to amateur and professional golfers from Achimota, Tema and Celebrity (Sakumono) golf clubs, attracted over 180 participants.

Mr E.P.L. Gyampoh, Board Chairman of Ecobank Ghana Limited on behalf of the bank, presented a cheque for 20 million cedis to the Achimota Golf Club.
