Brave-Mensah wins African-American golf

Accra, Nov. 3, GNA--Victor Brave-Mensah scored 287 gross to win the First African-American Classic Golf tournament which ended at the Achimota Golf Course in Accra on Sunday.

Emos Korblah took the second position with 289 gross, Paul Dossey was third with 293 gross, Anthony Amuzu placed fourth with 298 gross while J. Mawuli came fifth with 304 gross.

A. Akafo won the Men's Amateur Handicap One to Nine category with 42 points, J. Coffie came second with 39 points, while Nick Smallman placed third with 36 points.

Wilhemina Aggrey won the Ladies Handicap One to 24 category with 39 points with Adelaide Owusu-Adjapong taking the second spot with 35 points.

The four-day event which was organised by the Ghana Professional Golfers Association, was sponsored by African-American in Ghana. Mrs Mary Yates, the United States Ambassador to Ghana expressed the hope that the event would strengthen the already existing cordial relationship between Africa and the United States.

Mr Gilbert Morgan, President of the GPGA said the association has not been able to organised competitions due to lack of sponsorship. He appealed to corporate bodies to come to the aid of the association so that it can organize international competitions. 03 Nov. 2003.
