Boakye wins Sandvick Tamrock golf

Vincent Boakye, on Sunday won the second Sandvick Tamrock (Ghana) Limited sponsored Golf Tournament held at the GGL Golf Course in Tarkwa with 40 net score points.

R. E. Koomson also of GGL won the second position with a 40 net score points on count back while Charles Baiden came third with net score of 38 points, with Francis Davidson and Oscar Entsiwuah taking the fourth and fifth position with 36 points each.

The tournament was organised in honour of the President of Sandvick Tamrock Limited International, Mr Ohus Bundley to round off his five-days duty tour of Ghana.

Sandvick Tamrock is a mining equipment supplying company.

Mary Kaningen of the GGL golf club however maintained her supremacy in the ladies competition when she clinched the first position with 36 net score. She was followed by Mavis Nsarkoh with 32 points while Matilda Kusi also of GGL placed third with 30 points.

In the special event, Yaw Assan of Bogoso and Mary Kaningen of Tarkwa won the longest drives in the men and ladies categories.

Ellen Burke of Bogoso won the first position in the nine holes competition for new beginners with Tom Sullivan placing second while Boats Van Staden of Tarkwa took the third position.

In the inter mining company competition, GGL emerged first for the second time running with 130 points with Bogoso Gold Limited (BGL) placing second with 119 points while African Mining Services, came third with 101 points.

Speaking at the presentation ceremony, Mr Bundley urged the companies to show more concern for the welfare of their employee to enable them increase productivity.

He gave the assurance that Sandvick would continue to support and promote golfing among the mining companies.

Mr Johan Botha who is also the president of the Goldfields Golf Club thanked the participants for their participation and hoped both the companies and golf clubs would continue to improve upon their standards.

Prizes won included colour television sets, ghetto blasters, golf sticks, golf bags, golf puffer standing fans, gas stoves, blenders and rice cookers.
