Asiamakpor wins Ghana Open Golf

Accra, April 18. GNA - Robert Aziamakpor returned a net score of 225, to win the 74th Annual Ghana Open Golf Championship at the Achimota Golf Course in Accra on Monday.

Patrick Nukunu came second with 227 net, beating C.A. Ayisah on count-back while Francis Sogbordjor placed fourth with a net score of 228.

Mona Captan came first in the Ladies category with 247 net followed by Veronica Adjei at second position with 248 net while Margaret Kuako came third with 260 net, beating Suzie Abaloo on count-back.

Emos Korblah won the Professional's event with 280 gross with Victor Brave-Mensah coming second with 288 gross while John Mawule was third with 291 gross beating Michael Sumauro on count-back. The four-day 54-Hole Scratch event that was opened to both amateur and professional golfers throughout the country was sponsored by SG-SSB Bank.

Mr J.V.L. Phillips, first President of the Ghana Golf Association praised the SG-SSB Bank for the sponsorship and asked other corporate bodies to help develop the sport.

He appealed to the professional golfers to use their rich experience to help train the youth.

Mr Alain Hourcade, Deputy Managing Director of SG-SSB Bank pledged his Bank's commitment of sponsoring the event for the next three years. The Deputy Managing Director on behalf of the Bank presented a cheque of 20 million cedis to support the training of junior golfers. About 200 golfers took part in the competition.
