Ane wins Achimota Golf President's Putter

Accra, Jan. 11, GNA - Jonathan Ane returned a net score of 68 to win this year's Achimota Golf Club President's Putter Open Championship played at the Achimota Golf course in Accra on Saturday. Anthony Matthews took the second position with 69 net with Mike Aggrey placing third with 71 net after he beat Felix Addo, Sam Bannerman-Wood and Albert Asiedu-Ofie on count-back. Mary Asafu-Adjaye came first in the Ladies category with 69 net followed by Suzie Abaloo-Kumassah at the second position with 73 net, while Beatrice Vetch-Bempong took the third position with 76 net, beating Florence Etwi-Barimah on count-back.

Stephen Klah emerged champion in the Professionals encounter when he beat Emos Korblah on count-back after they had both scored 70 gross. The one-day 18-Hole event, which was opened to both amateur and professional golfers throughout the country, attracted about 150 golfers.

Mr Mike Ezan, President of the Achimota Golf Club who sponsored the event, praised the competitors for exhibiting good sportsmanship throughout the event and expressed the hope that such attitude would be maintained in the ensuing years. He called on members of the Club to assist in playing pioneering role in the celebrations of the 75th anniversary of the Club which would be marked this year. 11 Jan. 09
