81 year old golfer vows to keep on winning

Octogenarian Kwabena A. Ohemeng is enjoying playing his golf so much, the 81 year old tells SportsInGhana.com he has no plans to ever quit the sport.

Fit, healthy and strong despite his old age, Mr. Ohemeng was the winner of the Special competition for players over 75 years at last Saturday’s Captain’s Prize tournament of the Tema Country Golf Club.

And after claiming his prize of a huge trophy on the day he celebrated his 81st birthday, Mr. Ohemengis adamant he hasn’t finished winning yet, not whilst he is still alive.

“I just feel great but I’m not surprised. I always win. Even last Tuesday I won a Fearsome Group tournament. But it’s not the end because I will continue playing and winning,” K.A. Ohemeng told us.

So what could possibly be the secret to the fitness level and competitiveness of the 81 year old? “There is no secret. I just keep on training and working hard,” he said.

For someone who started playing golf so late in his life – just over 20 years ago when he retired – Mr. Ohemeng has developed a love for the sport so much he does not want it to the end. He formed the Fearsome Group made up of senior golfers in Tema and they compete regularly.

“I am playing till I can’t play anymore. I will keep on winning and beating young guys. Even in my grave I will be Chairman of the Fearsome Group. When I go to heaven, I will still be playing,” he has warned his rivals.
