We are all disgusted by the treatment of the lady.
But we seem to think that what was done to her vagina makes the situation worse. But, for goodness sake, even if her vagina had never been touched, the treatment would still equally have been bad and should equally be condemned.
The fact simply is that NOBODY in a civilised law abiding society should be treated that way - whether man or woman. And for no reason.
So the problem is mob action. How do we deal with this? I think that is the crux of the matter.
Those who watched the video may have heard a few dissenting voices among the onlookers. Why did these dissenting voices not win early and save the lady from the barbarism to which she was subjected? Why were the voices of the better angels of our nature so muted as the violence continued? Were they afraid that they may be subjected to the same treatment?
And why did the police not quickly come to her rescue?
We have seen this video only because of the presence of smartphones. If this thing had happened ten years ago, the story would have remained untold. I hope they can use the same video clip to identify one or two of the perpetrators even if I am not sure what the law says in such things.
And let's hope the condemnation the video brought about will instill some fear into people thinking they can do such things in the future.
