...where you propose that a citizen cannot run for presidency if they have no house of their own. Such exclusionist idea should have been left out of your piece as it potentially sets a bad precedence for other preclusions. However, I am well and truly in shock, as most people are, to learn of the packages given to these ex-presidents, it smacks of being completely out of tune with the current economic hardships facing the country. Ghs22,000 a month? A two million dollar mansion? Presumably 2x v8 suvs? Drivers? Cook? Round the clock security? Administrative staff? God knows what else? And it doesn't just stop there, the same goes for the vice president, speaker of parliament, etc. OMG, we are hemorrhaging as a country aren't we?

Ghana is copying both American and British demoncracy and these two do not loot State properties as their own. They move out as soon as hearing defeat of their party. Why is aGhanaian President behaving like a lunatic roaming around the block and demanding to have house. Build your own like the anybody else. Grow up and be independent. Then use squatter's right to continue living in the residence. Shame unto JDM. Is this the same guy who is considering running as aGhana's leader?

I agree sir. There is no need to give them houses. Can't they go back to their houses when they retire?

This is their way of hiding looted money; to court public sympathy, as if they dont have money to build their own homes after serving as heads of state. like kuffour like Mahama, they have stlon lots of money and are supper rich but play this trick of asking for state to give them homes so that gullible people will think they didn't steal state money. Just imagine , dashing one person 300million cedis to someone just to defame his opponent. They dont deserve anything from the people because they were paid well above everybody in the land, and even ordinary labourers manage their meager income to build homes for their family.

I totally agree with you. There should be referendum so citizens can have imput. How can some one get paid over 22,000 cedis and not pay tax, and yet the poor public servant earning 1000 cedis pay tax? After all, these politi ... read full comment

How can some one get paid over 22,000 cedis and not pay tax, and yet the poor public servant earning 1000 cedis pay tax? After all, these politicians steal money and enrich themselves at the expense of tax payers. We are a poor country and we can't offer what developed countries offer their ex presidents.
