Two Jamaican farmers went to farm in the Jamaican forest one day and stumbled upon a fruit tree never before seen by anyone. The fruit looked like an orange, but a new name was needed to christen this fruit. The farmers were approached by a Ghanaian resident of Kingston, Jamaica who said he suggested it would be a good idea to name the fruit after his friend's son, Nana Akufo-Addo.
The Jamaican farmers were excited by a possible Jamaican-African bridge. two days later, the Ghanaian approached the Jamaican farmers with the photo of Nana Akufo-Addo. Upon seeing Kufo-Addo's photo, the two farmers exclaimed in unison, "ugli", in their Jamaican accent. It then dawned on the farmers that the fruit should be called "ugli". And so was born the Jamaican "ugli" fruit.
