Ashantis has a history of complete dominion over two/thirds of present day Ghana and Ivory Coast. Their former subjects are still smarting about this fact, hence their collective gang mentality to hate anything Ashanti. Ashantis have no hatred towards any tribe, and they owe no apologies to anyone for the bravery of their ancestors. There the need for Nkrumah to go. The Kankan Nyame and the ritual killings erroneously tagged with Nkrumah were not done by his enemies, the then opposition UP , but the ordinary ghanaian who was brutalised and kept in perpetual fear by Radical Nkrumah and his 'Young Pioneering Varanda-Boys' informants. I don't know how old you are but trust me the last days of Nkrumah was the exact reminiscence of what characterized the nineteen year rule of terror by Rawling - the Trokosi Nationalist who appeared to walk in the incarnated image of Nkrumah himself.
Just as we saw under the autocratic 'rule of terror' under Rawlingses which seemed to have reduced in momentum in his latter days in office, the last days of Nkrumah was so terrible that its impact sent the entire nation cold. People were vanishing into the thin air; others were imprisoned without knowing their charges; many were those who ran into exile, and those who decide to brave the storm were greedy with economic hardships worst than when the whiteman was in control. And all this happened when, just as the biblical 'prodigal son' and as a 'father christmas', Nkrumah stop developing the country and instead, directed our resources to help Guinea and Mali, and the formation of the OAU. As if this self-serving posture was not way too much for the taxpayer to bear, Nkrumah in his own wisdom saw the need to supply Togo and the then Ivory Coast with electricity at a time when the entire Northern sector of Ghana, comprising parts of Ashanti, Eastern, Brong, the 3- Northern regions and , in fact, the entire rural Ghana was in abject and total darkness. No wonder he was adjudged the African of the millinium? Nkrumah took these desperate measures of aligning himself with alien Atapkamis across our eastern borders and the Wangara-Moshies beyond the Northern borders after it became evidently clear that he had lost touch with indigenous Ghana. The only option left to him as a power drunk dictator, to continue stay in power was either he become the leader of Africa or forced himself unto Ghanaians as a life president, of which he settled on the later.
But Lalai! Tofiakwa! The Kookoase Dwellers - who had the reputation to kicking butts in Ghana, including White butts - would not sit down for this to happen in Ghana. They supported Kwasi Kotoka and Akwasi Amankwah Afrifa to give Nkrumah the much needed butt kicking that would send his supporters to the perpetual zionism that Kwarteng and his ilks find theselves in today.
