Prosper,
Yours is a brilliant review of a purportedly brilliant memoir. Convinced I must read this work. Finally, pls find the time to post such invaluable contributions of yours on ghanaweb. It (portal) is surely in need of works of such calibre. Noone here can forget your series on real estate industry and also your prophetic call on the ruling NDC to abandon the post of Propaganda Secretary in the era of the knowledge economy. Finally, congrats for finishing your PhD and beginning with an Assistant Professorship. You'll surely fly if you continue this way!

And congrats to namesake Yao for finishing his PhD.
Btw, it is a different Tsikata who is responsible for the articles on real estates/properties.

Reading is a lifelong activity and only blindness can prevent you from it. You may read more or less, but not at all even if you have to spend all your time trying to make a living. The fact that you still find time to come to ghanaweb and read articles and post comments means you have time to read stuff too.
Btw, how do you tell if a review of a book is brilliant when you haven't read the book?

I think this is a better contribution to the debate on ghanaweb than your NDC articles. The mere fact of your being an NDC partisan turns some of us off much as we are also turned off by writers with a patently NPP agenda.

Thanks for the review. I think Okoampa reviewed this book some weeks ago - can't quite remember. But Okoampa's reviews are often more about himself than the subject under review and I've forgotten what he said about the book.
Too bad, Yao, that you don't read much African writing apart from a few of the old ones. And you are the poorer for it. Besides those old ones, there are others who have also done well. And there is a new crop of young writers coming out of Africa who are writing very well - as well as, if not even better than, the old masters you mentioned at the beginning of your review. At 67, Zakes Mda is not one of the new generation of African writers. The man already has a few fine novels bearing his name.
Can't say much about the subject matter of the review since I haven't read the book. But I think you've given me enough reasons to want to read it. The kindle version of the book comes with a stiff price tag though: $32 to have it wirelessly delivered to your device within a few seconds! Perhaps I'll go for a cheap used print edition.
Anyway, Ayi Kwei Armah's book is The Beautyful Ones..., not The Beautiful Ones...

Prosper, I think you would be doing yourself and a lot of people disservice by claiming you didn't know about Prof. Mdas work yet you have spent eternity in Athens where he teaches and you went to school for years. Not to know about a world acclaimed writer whose office is 100 metres away or less from where you took almost all your courses a little out of this world.
