Kenneth Kaunda was a brutal dictator who ruled Zambia with iron fist and appalling human rights record. He did not have any sympathy for the people of Zambia because he was from Malawi.
Like Kaunda, they said Nkrumah too was the son of a Liberian fisherman, and was called (Krubah)before the name was changed to Nkrumah when he went to school. This may explain why Nkrumah too was so wicked and tyrannized the people of Ghana so much before he was forced out of power by our national heroes.
The truth is that Nkrumah used to talk only about his mother.

Yes, Nkrumah had great ideas but to think that he was a Messiah, who therefore should be allowed to do whatever he liked and not be held accountable was mistake that cost the lives and freedom of other compatriots who, probably, as far as the Ghana liberation struggle was concerned, sacrificed more than Nkrumah. The 1966 coup was liberating for the many others whose freedom had been curtailed for the vision of a man who thought himself more than human to thrive. People like you who, probably do not care if your own freedoms are abridged, or perhaps, could be sycophantic for selfish gain, caused inevitable fall of an otherwise great African. Anyway, you can continue to worship him in you own self-created shrine but spare us the nuisance of the noise of your noisy cult laments. We remember Nkrumah as a human being who misunderstood his humanity and sought to play God and thought he could use Ghana's resources without the people's consent to aggrandize himself! It would be interesting to know what you mean by Nkrumah used "..Ghana's resources without the people's consent to aggrandize himself! What resources are you talking about and in what way did Nkrumah aggrandize himself?
It would also be interesting to know from you the names of those who you think sacrificed more than Nkrumah in the liberation struggle. Those who in your opinion, had their freedoms curtailed during the 1st Republic were just simply terrorists. Im sure you know what measures are taken against terrorists - even in todays more advanced world.
Notwithstanding your totally illiterate perspectives, I wish to remind you that there is also something that is referred to as the freedom of expression and association which is enshrined in the constitutions of almost every respectable nation and organization.
Now, much as you may wish to criticize Kwame Nkrumah for whatever reason - and that is your right, nobody is imposing the view that Kwame Nkrumah was a great man on you so will you kindly leave those of us who think that Nkrumah is a great man, alone? Why do you think you have the over-riding right to dictate to me who is, or, is not a great man?
There are hundreds of thousands of other subjects like nursery rhymes, cartoons and pornography on the internet for disadvantaged adults of your kind, so if as you say, you want to us to "spare you the nuisance of the noise of our noisy cult laments", please go to those other sites and stop behaving as if you also are "..more than human" by trying to tell us how we should think and what we should do with our time.

We understand that those trumpeters of dictatorship and copy-writers of archaic Nkrumaist articles never recovered from the shellshock of their demigod's overthrow in 1966. We also understand that they are forever doomed to worship that mummified dictator and gobble his phlegm for ice cream. That is why they daily troll the internet for all the good things said about him and ignore all the bad things recounted of him. When they became deprived of the muse to sing his praise, they parroted the dregs of what others have written and forgotten. So let it be with them forever.
The rest of us discerning Ghanaians know that the nation recovered from the pipedream of a mad dictator: There is the freedom of speech and expression. The people are fully enfranchised to determine their leadership. There is a vibrant multi-party democracy that empowers the people to elect their leaders. There is no one-party state; no incarceration without trial; no life presidency; no emblazonment of a feared dictator's effigy on our currency nor his images on our streets......
Thus none of those shellshocked minions of dictatorship can tell us exactly what good thing they want us to recover from the failed and dead leadership of the evil villain who plunged the country and Africa into the dark continuum of dictatorship and ripped us of our innocence.
Maybe they want us to recover the PDA(imprisonment without trial) which Bro. Kwarteng considers the best of Nkrumah's legacy and which he truly misses. In this case, I can assure him and his star-struck trumpeters that their minds have already been imprisoned for life without trial by Nkrumah. Fortunately for them, they love and cherish their entombed psyche and can continue enjoying their fool's paradise of fond remembrance.
But they should leave the rest of us alone to enjoy true freedom and justice bequeathed to us by the true Osagyefo Dr. J.B. Danquah, the architect of Ghana and the doyen of our true freedoms and liberty.
No wonder JB Danquah wanted to transplant George Washington"s selective democracy onto Ghanaians. Do you think the vast majority of blacks who lived under his regime thought they were living under a democratic govt? They lived under a tyrant. On what basis do you classify him as a democrat?.Did he abolish slavery as a true democrat? Please, do not insult us with your sterile logic! Do not bore us with the old tripe about his private thoughts on slavery. You can worship him just as you worship your ill-starred,lumpen,arrogant and insignificant Idol,JB Danquah. Now, you ought to bore a deep hole into your arrogant self and let the sap run out. No wonder Ghanaians rejected JB Danquah thrice. They will do the same to Nana Addo as well. G Washington, was the bedrock of US democracy just as HF Verwoerd was to S African democracy. You seem to produce the minimum intellectual output with the maximum Nkrumah bashing. By the way, Ngolomah and Nkrumah are the same in Nzima language. We do not buy your perverse verdict on a true Ghanaian patriot like Nkrumah.

SAS,
For your information, since 2012 one of your leading NPP folks in North America has vigorously tried to recruit me for the NPP (Note: I will not mention his or her name).
Then also I have had other NPP folks who read my articles on Ghanaweb, Modernghana, Spyghana (now Newsghana), Vibeghana, and other lesser known Ghanaian websites doing the same as your North American NPP folk.
Importantly they all think I can help the cause of the UP/NPP tradition by publishing articles on Danquah, Busia, etc. And they cite the collaboration between Fredie Blay/Paa Kwesi Nduom to sometimes make their case, to entice me as it were.
Well, please be reminded that this is the first time I am discussing this in public. Are there not competent writers/researchers in the NPP who can promote the ideas Busia, Danquah, etc., on Ghanaweb and other fora? I don't think so. Of course there are.
The point is that I don't write on the basis of partisan politics. I write to promote progressive ideas that are good for Ghana and Africa, not for political parties.
In fact, unlike his successors and their parochial ideas, Nkrumah and his progressive ideas were bigger than party politics. This is what I have tried to do in my articles.
Finally, I do not have to troll the internet for articles on Nkrumah and his progressive ideas. It is not as if I don't have other things to do. If you subscribe to respected peer-reviewed journals and other well-patronized magazines such as New African, talk to the right people (scholars, historians, writers, professors, Chair of history departments, etc) among others, you are likely to come across writings easily.
Among the circles of friends I have the ideas expressed in these articles are common language. I have writer-historian friends (from both the Nkrumahist/Danquahist traditions) who sometimes bring some of these writings to my attention.
As a matter of fact, I have writer-historian friends who had recommended certain works written by Danquah-friendly writers/historians to my attention.
So never think I go about trolling the internet for articles (Of course I do ocassionally). You do too, so are several others on Ghanaweb. Again for your information, these articles I have been publishing on Ghanaweb are articles I have read in the New African Magazine some years back.
If you care to know, I have cited parts of these articles in some of my previous publications on Ghanaweb and elsewhere but decided to publish the original articles in full. And these articles are not necessairly praising Nkrumah. They are proven facts.
Well, what do you have to say about some of your NPP folks trying to recruit me to research and write in favor of the UP/NPP tradition on Ghanaweb and elsewhere?
Note: I didn't not proofread this.
Good day.
Thanks.

SAS,
I forgot to mention that some of the articles and quotes by and about Nkrumah come from textbooks used in American universities/colleges and other parts of the world.
For instance, Dr. Molefi Kete Asante's "History of Africa" replaces J.D. Fage's "History of Africa" as per Routledge Publishers.
Dr. Asante's book is used in universities/colleges in America, Nigeria, India, Ghana, South Africa, Canada, the United Kingdom, India, Keynya among other places across the globe. So are Dr. Kofi Kissi Dompere's highly scientific works on Nkrumah and his ideas.
I don't want to get into the high caliber of institutions and places where Dr. Dompere's books on Nkrumah's ideas are used...I can go on and on and on and on. Nkrumah is all over the place in the most highly respected contexts across the globe.
I have already provided lists of academic texts where Nkrumah's speeches (nearly 1000 pages) can be found. More so, I don't want to bother you with other highly valued texts, technical papers, doctoral dissertations (bachelor's and master's theses) talilored to Nkrumah, his political vision and legacy.
Let me just end here.
Thanks.

We Danquists always like to recruit whoever can help our cause, and I have never doubted that you are a good material when you are not inebriated with this poisonous Nkrumaist ideology. Same applies to all of you guys and gals. Most of you speak like human beings when the issue is not about Nkrumah. When the issue is about Nkrumah, you speak like parrots with ossified brains. That is why we will like to cure you and have you in our ranks. You are all our brethren without your shameful Nkrumaist gibberish.
And as to Danquah, we Danquists don't think we have to agree with him in everything or worship him as a god. In fact he would be embarrassed if we were to deify him. We believe him to be just as we are because, unlike Nkrumah, he never thought of himself as a superhuman. And unlike Nkrunah, Dr. Danquah wants his followers to exceed him in his achievements. He never said anywhere that he was anything. So we never have to mention him or adulate him or quote him or put him on a pedestal. We don't have to subserve our intellect to his at any time. Danquah is wise and humble enough to know that we now living can continue his work without referring to him or putting him at the center of our work.
But to be a Danquist is to be ready to die for the cause of freedom, to attack tyranny wherever it is found, to promote free thinking, to overthrow stupid ideology and to engender peaceful co-existence with those who disagree with us. And for the latter, we do not imprison our opponents; we reason with them to recruit them to our side.
To be an Nkrumaist is to gobble his phlegm and be intellectually entombed within the ideology of his praise, and it is the work of we Danquists to cure you Nkrumaists of the delusion and hatred you inherited from that great Deceiver.

SAS,
Check out your third paragraph (fourth sentence):
"And unlike Nkrunah, Dr. Danquah wants his followers to exceed him in his achievements..."
You write "NkruNah" instead of "NkruMah." But I did not care because I knew what you were talking about. Besides, I also knew the letters "M" and "N" are direct neighbors on the computer keyboard (except that the arrangement on your computer keyboard is different), just as "V" and "B" are, hence my "LeaBe" instead of "LeaVe." So we are in effect making the same typographical errors. Of course these are inadvertent typos, nothing to bother about.
The question is: Should I cry over your response because you replaced an “M” with an “N”? No. Such typos do not matter to me in the least. And like I have said on numerous occasions on Ghanaweb, I hardly spend a SECOND proofreading my responses. However, I don’t do this when I am forwarding writing samples to more important---let me say formal—destinations. I take my time to proofread them.
In the end, I let you know in advance that I had to leave to address some more important questions other readers--who had read the same articles on other websites—had posed to me. I also did not feel I needed to answer your question(s) because others like Prof. Lungu and Shabi had directly and indirectly provided the answer. In fact Prof. Lungu’s quote which he attributed to you answers your question. And other aspects of the supposed answers to your question(s) can be directly found in many of your own Ghanaweb essays. Do I have to remind you which of your own articles directly answer the question(s) you raise? No. After all I did not write them.
So, in a nutshell, my response to you was done in haste. Thus such typos are bound to happen. It will not end today with me—or tomorrow. I promise you you shall see more—including grammatical errors. My work is done once my core readership understands my point of view. This is what is most important to me. Granted, typos and grammatical errors and all, you still managed to read them and even to contribute to the discussions. I have achieved what I intended with these articles.
And for your information, no one as far as I know is adulating Nkrumah. What these principled men and women are saying—as given in the articles--about Nkrumah are the facts. Did Nkrumah help found the OAU? Did he help decolonize Africa? Did he help Namibians, South Africans…? Did he help found the CPP? Did he win independence for the Gold Goast? Was he overthrown in 1966? Yes, Yes, Yes…and YES. These are facts. They are not adulations. Neither are they made up. Our historical books and peer-reviewed journals cover them as well. Active research is ongoing as far as this aspect of human knowledge is goes!
That said, I am however surprised that you will “adulate” Nkrumah in the following (these statements from you is very profound. They capture what most of us have been saying all along about Nkrumah’s vision. Nearly all the authors whose articles I have presented on Ghanaweb advance parallel arguments. Read what you wrote a few years ago and compare what you said about Nkrumah and his vision for Ghana/Africa to what these other authors---who you claim are adulating Nkrumah—are saying):
"....Biological sciences affirm the notion that all humankind are equal, and that exposure to knowledge and culture accounts for why some are more inclined than others to achieve greatness, power and wealth...Therefore the defining variable in mental development is “opportunity” which establishes the most legitimate intellectual differentials in the cognitive abilities of groups and individuals.../
\...It is in the context of all this knowledge that Ghana’s first president, soon after independence, deemed it fit and proper to concentrate on the formal school system to boost the African personality and to merge the tribes under one great banner of nationhood . Dr. Kwame Nkrumah’s vision for Ghana was the elevation of the confidence of the African and the unity of the nation and her people. This vision extended beyond Ghana’s borders to include the whole of Africa. What Nkrumah conceived of nationhood made philosophical sense because without knowledge and unity, no country can claim nationhood. If ignorance makes people show greater allegiances to tribes at the expense of the nation, then the survival of the nation is under serious threat. For a country to be a nation, her people will have to subsume ethnicity under the aegis of the national interest. The present conflicts amongst the tribes, though so far verbal, is a testimony that our country comprises nations within the state. In effect, we of this generation have repudiated the concept of nationhood with our ethnic animosity and undermined the very tenets under which the nation was founded…”
Now check out the sentence in your article: “The present CONFLICTS, though so far verbal, IS…?” Should it have been “The present Conflicts, though so far verbal, Are…” or “The present Conflict, though so far verbal, Is…” Does it matter to me? Not in the least! Do I have to make noise about the subject-verb disagreement here? No. Why? Because I understand the piece even with this “error”! Guess what? I also know you are good at the language and therefore will not advertently have committed this “error” if you had thoroughly proofread the piece before having it published on Ghanaweb.
Sometimes we had certain constructions in our heads but put down the wrong ones. It is human nature. I see such “errors” all the time but, like I have said before, they do not matter to me in terms of how I see an individual or how an individual advances a piece of argument on a non-formal setting like Ghanaweb. I have seen and read worse typos and grammatical errors in the works of great writers. That said, ignore any typos/grammatical errors you see in these comments since I am not going to proofread it.
Have a great weekend.
Thanks.

So easy to bring you back Bro. I thought you were too busy.....Trapping you is as easy as trapping a rat in my village. You have spent all these hours trying to show that I am also human? I know! I will never need anybody's approval of what or how I write, but I know that you Nkrumaists are full of inferiority complex, like your demigod. Otherwise, ask your self what is wrong with stupid Shabi's English, and you will know where I am coming from.
Anyway, your English has degenerated very much ever since you took on this Nkrumaist gibberish, and don't worry because there is a natural co-relationship between espousing Nkrumaism and writing bad English. With Danquists, that co-relationship is per se inverse. Nkrumah wrote very bad English too. Remember that as an Nkrumaist, you are per se bad in English, so live with it....If you transformed into a Danquist today, your English will return to your former proficiency.
By the way, you may ask your father the meaning of "Atete Nkrunah", and you will be enlightened that "Nkrunah" is one of Kwame's many hidden titles.

I don't think you are saying that Danquists like Adjow Wangara, Nii Teiko, Mahmoud, Jato Kwashivi Rawlings, etc. write better than G.K. Berko, Shabi, etc? Remember there are so many Danquists on Ghanaweb who can barely write. You have been crtitizing many of these on Ghanaweb.
Well, I have made the necessary contacts including one with an establsihed linguist, historian, and writer on "Ateke Nkrunah" and its variants "Tete Kroma," or "Tete nkroma" and have been told they had absolutely nothing to do with Nkrumah.
I was told the second word in the phrase means "heart." That aside, I will like you to take a look at Ngugi wa Thiong'o's "Decolonizing the Mind" and Carter Woodson's "The Miseducation of the Negro."
The point of it all is that studying, writing, and speaking the English has not prevented our judges/lawyers, etc., from taking bribes. The language has not prevented our politicians from doing the right thing.
How has the English language helped Ghanian graduates from finding employment, etc? This is why I pay more attention to the message of a good writing/article than to grammer. In fact I have never had any problems with written English wherever I had been on this planet.
When I list my problems English is not one of them. In fact I have more respect for trained linguists than for men and wome who merely srudy any language. Linguitsts know better and are more technically attuned to the structural dymanics of a language that one who merely studies that language.
A few examples are Cheikh Anta Diop, Joseph Greenberg, Theophile Obenga. Don't worry, I will come to the Danquists for English lessons and then move back into my Nkrumahist cocoon.
Anyway I am responsible for any errors in this response.
Thanks.

At least you now know that "Nkruna" and "Nkroma" are the same and refer to "heart". The original spelling of that Akan name is also "Nkroma", not "Nkrumah". Nkroma also means "ninth born".
"Atete Nkrunah" refers to those ritual murderers who go around killing and ripping off hearts for their own juju purposes. By calling Nkrumah as "Nkrunah", I am hyperbolically inferring that he kills and rips off the hearts of others....That of course is a pun on his name "Nkrumah" which I accidentally concocted.
English is very important, or else you will not even appear on these pages; your science would have made you invisible to us. That is why you must improve if you find yourself lagging behind. And if you are using those you mention here as your standard, then you are lost indeed.
But more seriously, I don't think your problem is lack of proficiency in English at all, but rather lack of standard editorial scrutiny. For example, what you have written here is completely disastrous, but I will let it pass and ask you to go and sin no more. Adding the caveat at the end of your writings does nothing to save you from your sloppiness. Remember that you can use software to correct many of your multifarious errors.
Don't write like Nkrumah, and then tell us to overlook your errors like Nkrumah.

SAS,
Good day.
Correcting typos and grammatical errors are not problems for me. I care less.
You will be seeing more in the future, I promise. I will not employ any software to correct my errors. I don't have time for that--though the software can easily that.
Of course I can always draft my responses on Microsoft Word first and then use Review (Spelling $ Grammar) to check for errors and transfer them to Ghanaweb. I will not do that since my core readership gets my message even with the errors. I DON'T CARE REALLY.
In fact this is the last time I am going to discuss typos and grammar. And whether what I wrote is disastrous is irrelevant. What is relevant is you understanding what I wrote. Your comments exactly so.
From now on I will not even bother to provide a disclaimer or accept responsibility for my typos and grammatical errors. Let me also mention for the record that however you see the way Nkrumah wrote, his works are more widely across the world read than those of Danquah and Busia.
Danquah, Busia, and others did not write better than Nkrumah. I have also not come across any writer on Ghanaweb who writes better than Nkrumah. NOT A SINGLE WRITER. ALL I SEE ON GHANAWEB IS NORMAL WRITING. NOTHING SPECTACULAR REALLY.
So SAS, never expect me to proofread my responses from now on. Expect more typos and grammatical errors. I hope this settles it then.
I THINK I AM DONE FOR TODAY. REMEMBER ENGLISH IS NOT ONE OF MY HEADACHES. GHANAWEB IS NOT A SCHOLARLY JOURNAL.
Have a great weekend.
Thanks.

Even for a presumed lawyer who I understand, scandalously teaches in the equivalent of a junior secondary school in the US, the depths of your anti-Nkrumah psychosis surpasses even that of the grand-masters of the Ku Klux Klan or the racist Apartheid genocidal murderers who your mentor JB Danquah subserviently followed and obeyed like the imperialist goon that he was.
I can very well imagine that "the rest of you discerning Ghanaians", as you put it, are an almost invisible microscopic minority, given that the memory of Kwame Nkrumah looms large and above over the vast landscape of Africa and the entire race of Black African people.
Kwame Nkrumahs name, accomplishments and prestige is associated with every single respectable, historic and celebrated event and personality in world history. For pipsqueaks and nonentities like you to try to earn some visibility by attempting to vandalize this historical icon, amounts to what can be described as juvenile impetuosity.
The only reason why some of us make the effort to address your hazardous and zany opinions can be likened to the effort by mankind to address, resist and contain the spread of dangerous diseases like the dreaded ebola, AIDS, hepatitis, cholera, the bubonic plague and SARS diseases. In short, you are a living virus that threatens the progress of the eternally oppressed people of Africa by the same people in whose bosom you have now found comfort. Shame on you. If I were you I would be so ashamed of myself that I would not dare engage in any discussion that borders on the freedoms of oppressed people anywhere, much more of Africa.
Of course I will scour the internet to find anything of any value about Kwame Nkrumah. Unfortunately - and much as I have tried, I have not been able to find anything much that has been written against Nkrumah. I will be grateful if you can direct me to any such information that exists on the internet. I however doubt that there is much in that regard because if there was, people like you would not spend all your time gate-crashing into the pro-Nkrumaist forums just to prove how backward and stupid you are.
Sure, its alright for you to run away from your own country at a time when as you say, "the nation recovered from the pipedream of a mad dictator: There is the freedom of speech and expression. The people are fully enfranchised to determine their leadership. There is a vibrant multi-party democracy that empowers the people to elect their leaders." If so, then why did you run away?
Let me tell you something you dumb useless ass. Just yesterday, Ghanaians who tried to demonstrate on the simple issue of what they perceive to be a bloated electoral register, were brutally terrorized and prevented by the police from expressing their free will as well as their freedom of expression and speech. Yes, the people are enfranchised to vote for a selection of inherently corrupt political parties and dummies like you. Yes there is a multiplicity of opportunistic political parties that are based on ethnic, religious and nepotistic affiliations which at the end of the day can only forebode chaos and disintegration of the state. Yes, there is a large mass of a vulnerable electorate who are willing to vote for anybody or even anything including goats that are clad in the right party colors - so long as a few Cedis, a few tots of akpeteshie, a few enemas (bentoa), sanitary pads, wax prints, packets of laundry soap and if one is lucky, a few mobile phones or lap-tops are thrown their way. If you were honest with yourself, you would not have run away from this to go and take solace in the house of your oppressor.
As your JB Danquah, the terrorist and traitor par-excellence, the least said of him the better. The world has duly laid him to rest where he would best find solace - in the rubbish bins of history.

Bro SAS, many thanks for the obvious complimentary nuance that you appreciate the linguistic flavour of my contributions. I very much appreciate your gesture even if it was recklessly concealed in your typical posture of arrogance.
What I didnt appreciate was the fact that you unwisely 'dodged' the essence of my contribution which was specifically addressed to you. Im sure we will have another opportunity to address some of the queries I raised therein.
I think we have tested our ideological/intellectual horizons enough for today but a burning sensation that tickles my mind is why or what made you commit ideological suicide - that is the transgression into a Danquasiri (Danquist)? From what I gather, you were once an Nkrumaist or, if not, at least you were a progressively minded African. I find it difficult to understand how any man who has attained such challenging and lofty heights of intellectual ability, to retrogress or relapse into the murky depths and squalor of imperialist subservience.
Rid of all the ideological mumbo-jumbo, what Danquah stood for and died for, were the principles of the socio-economic arrangements of backward times when the larger portion of mankind, which did not know any better, suffered and continues to suffer greatly under that deplorable system. Sure, those principles and that system still exist today as we speak but they have existed and continue to exist not in favour of people like us who have always been at the butt end of that arrangement.
Under that system of exclusion, greed and patronage, mankind has only got as far as superficially polishing the primitive sentiments of 'survival of the fittest'.
Wake up Bro', and take a hard and honest look at the world around you. Whilst the greater portion of mankind exist in dire poverty and want, a much smaller portion have degenerated to the crass level where they spend an inordinate amount of intellectual and material resources on armaments with which they now have the ability blow the entire planet up many times over. Does this make any sense? Has any other living animal ever degenerated to this point of self-annihilation?
Slavery evolved into colonialism which also evolved into capitalism. There cannot possibly be any percentage in that system for those of us who were not active participants of that nasty evolution of human history. Africans - even if only on the basis of pride and racial integrity, have no business associating with that vile system that 'wasted' the lives of over 200 million human beings of its own kind and rendered many more, racially and culturally disoriented and confused.
One does not need to be formally educated or to be a rocket scientist to know this and it beats my mind how a seemingly educated person of African descent like you can flippantly overlook this critical decision as to what option is better suited for the African to enable him to break free from the many centuries of oppression of that system that seeks only to belittle, misuse and divide the ranks of humanity in the senseless and futile bid for a small section to exert their 'superiority' over all others of their kind.
No known organism or animal on earth lives by dominating, consuming or oppressing its own species. On the contrary, all other living organisms - whether it be flora or fauna, persist and thrive by what is referred to as the herd instinct - the motivation to stick together and live together for survival and mutual benefit.
To be continued

On the occasion of the forthcoming birthday of Ghana's First Dictator, we find it necessary to reproduce Danquah's letter to him while he was incarcerated at Nsawam without trial.
His celebrants must judge his actions through the viewpoint of his prisoner. Thereafter, they should tell us exactly what we must recover from those dark days. Remember also that the Nkrumaists posit nowadays that the PDA is Nkrumah's best heritage.
His Excellency, Osagyefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, P.C., LL.D., etc.,
President of the Republic of Ghana, Flagstaff House, Accra.
Dear Dr. Nkrumah,
I am tired of being in prison on preventive detention with no opportunity to make an original or any contribution to the progress and development of the country, and I therefore respectfully write to beg, and appeal to you to make an order for my release and return home.
I am anxious to resume my contribution to the progress and development of Ghana in the field of Ghanaian literature (Twi and English), and in Ghana Research (History and Culture), and I am anxious also to establish my wife and children in a home, to develop the education of my children (ten of them) and to restore my parental home at Kibi (Yiadom House) to a respectable dignity, worthy of my late father's own contribution to the progress of our country.
You will recall that when in 1948 we were arrested by the British Government and sent to the North for detention they treated us as gentlemen, not as galley slaves, and provided each of us with a furnished bungalow (two or three rooms) with a garden, together with opportunity for reading and writing. In fact, I took with me my typewriter and papers for the purpose, and Ako Adjei also did the same, and there was ample opportunity for correspondence.
Here at Nsawam, for the four months of my detention up to date (8th January to 9th May 1964), I have not been allowed access to my books and papers, except the Bible, and although I was told in January that my application to write to my wife, Mrs. Elizabeth Danquah, could be considered if I addressed a letter to the Minister of the Interior, through the Director of Prisons, I have not, for over three months, since I wrote to the Minister as directed on the 31st January 1964, received any reply, not even a common acknowledgment from the Minister as to whether I should be allowed to write to my wife or not. As I had no opportunity to make any financial provision for my wife and children at the time of my arrest, this delay in the Minister's reply has made it impossible for me to contribute to the progress and maintenance of my wife and also for the education of my children as is my duty to the nation.
Secondly, you will recall that barely a month after our detention in the North in 1948 we were brought down to Accra and released to appear before a Commission of Enquiry set up to investigate the justice or otherwise of our arrest of our arrest and detention. We duly appeared before the Watson Commission and made history for Gold Coast and Ghana. It resulted in the finding that the Burns Constitution was outmoded at birth, with a recommendation that our country should attain its independence within ten years, and that a Constitutional Committee (the Coussey Committee) should be set up to lay down the foundations of such independence and the steps to be taken towards its attainment.
In the present case, since I was arrested four months ago, I have not been asked to appear before any Judge, or Committee, or Commission, and, up to now, all I have been told is contained in a sheet of paper entitled "Grounds for Detention" in which I am accused that "in recent months" I have been actively engaged in a plan "to overthrow the Government of Ghana by unlawful means" and that I have planned thereby "to endanger the security of the State" (the Police and Armed Forces).
As no particulars of any kind were provided in the grounds for detention to indicate how the Government of Ghana came to formulate such a disgraceful charge against me, I spent in the prison here the greater part of January and February 1964 to write a review of the whole of my activities in "recent months" (roughly, from June 1962 [last release from detention] to January 1964). This writing was done by way of "Representations" in answer to the charge...
I confidently assure you, Sir, that when my representations reach you, it will be realized that my contribution in the said period of "recent months" to the intellectual and cultural achievement of the country was such that what should have been sent to me on January 8, 1964, was not a hostile invasion of my home and family, like enemy territory, together with my arrest and detention, but rather a delegation of Ghanaian civil officials and other dignitaries to offer me the congratulations of the nation and the thanks of the Government...
This, however was not to be, and I find myself locked up at Nsawam Prison in a cell of about six by nine feet, without a writing or reading desk, without a dining table, without a bed, or a chair or any form of seat, and compelled to eat my food squatting on the same floor where two blankets and a cover are spread for me on the hard cement to sleep on, and where a latrine pan (piss pot) without a closet, and a water jug and a cup without a locker, are all assembled in that narrow space for my use like a galley slave...
I am required to sleep or keep lying down on the blankets and a small pillow for the whole 24 hours of the day and night except for a short period of about five minutes in the morning to empty and wash out my latrine pan, and of about ten to fifteen minutes at noon to go for a bath. I am occasionally allowed to do a short exercise in the sun say once a week for about half an hour. That is all I have been engaged on in four months with my talents, such as I possess, going waste and my health being undermined and my life endangered by various diseases without being allowed to be taken to the Prison Hospital for continuous observation and treatment...
I am now left in a prison cell at the Special Block at the Nsawam Prison reserved for "dangerous criminals", and I am being thereby effectively prevented from making any original contribution to the intellectual and cultural progress of our country...
I end as I began. I am tired of being kept in prison kicking my heels, and doing nothing worthwhile for the country of my birth and love, and for the great continent of Africa which was the first to give the entire world a real taste of civilization... I trust you will accept this appeal for my release from detention in the spirit of utmost confidence and cordiality in which it is written, and I look forward to my early release from prison with the greatest possible faith, expectation and confidence.
Believe me to be,
Yours Very Sincerely and Respectfully,
J.B. Danquah

The Nkrumaists are a despicable lot who live by the putrid memory of a mummified villain. They put a ceiling on their creative powers and circumscribe their thinking by reference to that tyrant's short-circuited brainwave. They tell themselves in glee, "Thus far shall we go and no farther".
And here they are, cretins in achievements and dwarfs in confidence. That is why they are easily confused or even threatened by innocuous jokes meant to be swatted by the well-grounded. No Nkrumaist will ever surpass Nkrumah who was no more than an average villain in his own fairy tale of fame and grandeur. In Nkrumah's concocted story, they will always be mere supernumeraries, filling the space of Nkrumah's stage, licking his rectum and asking compatriots for mutual enema with the Nkrumaist Rectal Bulb Syringe!
As for us Danquists, it is our generation that will confer intellectual powers upon our dear nation, and we will not be remiss in our duty to prosper the nation. While the Nkrumaists know nothing except being vuvuzelas of encomia, we Danquists speak truth to power without fear and take power in order to build, not to destroy. Our doyen taught us how to die for our convictions. For the Nkrumaists, their convictions must be supplanted by a demigod who taught them to substitute their reasoning with the rant that he never does any wrong; that he never dies.......
