Massa, those fabricated stories u r thinking about. This is a modern Ghana n all the other tribes has educated and are intellectuals too to buy those cook stories. Count me war Ashanti's fought n conquered? Count them, n proved that tribes. I'm telling u that this is never true. Well maybe they may say Bonomanso or Adenkyiri or Akyim, which looks likes verbal claims among Ashanti's but can't be proven truth in modern Ghana. We can say Ashanti's won the wars against those smaller tribes then but not conquered them if true. Ashanti's never have oral historians among them neither poets who was writing this story believe to have been long before the arrival of the Europeans. No one among them were able to read n write before n how do they get the story from? What will have prove them right is if there is any sign like the great Gonja's, The Dagomba's who's fought and conquered smaller tribes people n lands living a subjects there for generations. Well we the Ga's did not fought wars neither some tribes conquered us. If u think any tribe conquered Ga's prove to me? If u say that Ashanti's was dominant in education during the colonial time, and I will have bear that some of history about their tribe was doctored to fevor his people or dictated to fevor Ashanti's. Ashanti's not superior in war n conquerers, this is concoctions n lies

Nice piece. Well done. But seriously, tribalism is there in Ghana but to some certain places and locations. I travel to many places in Ghana I really saw tribalist behavior of this tribes. Some of this tribes think they are the pure Ghanaians n others just occupied. I am fifty fifty (Dagomba and Gonja and part small Kamara(guan) tribe in Ghana due to enter-married life at North. My first time to travel out of Ghana to Libya I met Ghanaians and other Africans who were heading to Libya as well.
When we reach Niger and decided to saperate to camps b4 embarking on the final journey by countries, the Ghanaians was call n we rushed there, and to my surprise, there started to say we should speak Ghana language and that is twi. We couldn't speak that language n the man said we are not Ghanaians. Same happened to one Kamara tribe boy went to Ghana embassy and they asked him to speak twi be4 they can attend to him and he said he can only speak Dagbani or Gonja n his language, they refuse n it spark violence at the embassy there.
Other incident happened when I met some Arab Libyan whom I believe was told by Ashanti man that we the northerners are not Ghanaians.
The most annoying part was when I was returning to Ghana again by the same path, at the border they immigrations officer was going to verify whether I'm Ghanaian or not n he asked me to speak the same language and I said I don't understand n he asked me to stand aside. This are common tribalism that should be dealt with. How should immigration officer failed to understand we got different tribe and not all people understand one tribe. I grew up in Tamale n I never no tribalism until I started to travel other part of Ghana, meanwhile we have different race in tamale n we all treated same n share things in common. Half of my mates and teachers throughout school came from south but we never have title or word use to describe them like southerners doing in South, using bard and provocative word over some tribes. All this are coz by the elders of those tribalistic tribesmen. We should start to educate our children about respect for other tribes in Ghana. I believe Dagombas are doing great job about that.

No matter what the topic is about on Ghanaweb some idiot will find a way of involving Ashanti's. If Ashanti's are so tribalistic, unfriendly, arrogant and think they are superior to others why are large numbers of Ewe's, Northerners, Ga's, Fante's & other Akans happily living in the Ashanti Region? It is a silly myth that Ashanti's believe we are more superior than others. Ashanti's are simply proud of their history & culture. There is nothing arrogant in this.

Yaw, we all know Kumasi, n other part of Ghana as well. I don't hate ur tribe but this are act of ur people, bcoz its your tribe that y u jump to the defense, these are hard truth. I have many Ashanti's friends n non of them ever act that. I begin to realized that lower class ignorance among them are the ones still have that mentality. Even here in UAE, in my company we are three Ghanaians and the same issue happened again. I'm not just making up stories but that tribal sentiments are common found in mijority of Ashanti's that portraits them.
If u are saying many tribes are in Ashanti region n living happily wat will u say about the insulting language n words u used against them ( like "trokosi", "entaani","pepeni" etc.). If u don't know then find out, Ashanti's who are living in other region are more then other tribes who are living in Ashanti region. Take Accra as an example, Ashanti's in Accra almost challenging the population of the indigenous trbes there, and likewise the other cities. In tamales, almost all the big stores n schools there. U can't count houses up to firth n there won't be Ashantiman house there. In Ghana, there is coexistence among every tribe. We all have equil right to live in anywhere n anyplace in Ghana. So don't used that as a claimed

What some of us forget is that when you are travelling outside of the country, you don't do so with a passport issued by your tribe but rather with the passport of Ghana.
This tribal animosity are sometimes fanned by some bigots, especially by some politicians just for their selfish ends.
I look forward to the day when we'll have leaders, especially politicians, who would not espouse their tribal or regional roots but will stand up for mother Ghana, irrespective of where he/she comes from.
Long live Ghana!!

The writer is a coward. He hid behind generalizations which no-one makes sense of. What are the solutions to the problem. Govt must start to confront the issues. The writer must be bold to condemn the present govt of perpetuating nepotism and tribalism. It's Dewey ongoing. There is no Asante amongst the 100 Scholarship holders doing oil/ gas in Norway university arranged by Mills/Mahama. Out of 250 Ghana medical students in Cuba only 3 are Asantes. They are all Northerners/Ewes mostly. Chec up where the military, police, immigration, NADMO, civil service appointments go. Why are Asantes not in Mahama cabinet? The Appias, Boakyes, OSEIS, Prempehs, Agyemangs etc have no chance to be appointed into govt institutions. All these ethnocentric discriminations are happening and the writer hides behind generalizations to diffuse the issues. He is a coward with no real intentions to help arrest the ugly and evil NDC activities. NDC must take full responsibility of these negativities
