I think all they are calling for including the Ga traditional council is objectivity.Certainly there is a difference between deliberate noise making and noise for the sake of it.But there is more to it,cultural edicts recognize noise made to disturb and noise which no one can stop.Unless we recognize these differences we would be out of our depth in knowledge.
Moses Asaga's statement is a fact unless you want to play the usual stupid politics out of it.Even in the advanced economies and democracies technology had not been able to contain the act of God or force majeure because that is impossible. It is only the stupid and unlettered who will think otherwise.
Oko vanderpuire is measured amongst other developing economies and an independent panel thinks he deserves that accolade whether you like it or not.People who play politics with everything and who claim to be donned in academics gabs are the enemies of the people for their nonobjective and deliberate skewing of facts.
The international community recognizes events that are outside the prevention of a mere mayor. They recognize that major drainage projects are national projects and will take the will of the administration and parliament to solve it since it is capital intensive. They also recognize that act of God and natural disasters are not within human capability to contain.
So decisions of the environment and disasters must be made based on the facts and the reality on the ground but not just stupid political opportunism. The flood in Accra is a natural disaster and let us not make political capital out of it.

Fellow Ghanaians
SAS, Dr. SAS in his usual self has insulted all Ghanaians as uncouth, little town criers, and people who believe in superstition. Yet in the next paragragh, our so called highfalutin scholar contradicted hiself.
Fellow Ghanaians, read these two paragragh and be a judge for yourself.
Dr, SAS writes:
We still harbor extreme superstition and prejudices and impressionable postures no matter how educated we are, and there is nothing we acquire that enables us to resolve any of the teething problems in our society. At best, we are mere town criers...
In the next paragragh SAS writes:
And to confer on the Ghanaian mayor of Accra the title of the best mayor in the whole of Africa is one more ruse perpetrated on the minds of the people, and for this, even the gods appeared to cry for revenge. This is...
SAS, as if doublespeak seems to be your second language, it certainly equally reflects a calculating mind as easily as an addled one.
Dr, SAS, what do you mean by 'and for this, even the gods appeared to cry for revenge.' Are you also superstitious? Oh, I get it, you are above all of us. Yes, indeed you are Dr. SAS! In your highfalutin self you insulted every Ghananaian except you.
Dr. SAS, Where is your cure for our sickness? You have brilliantly written about our problems but I need YOUR remedy!

As regards cures, I have made tangential references to our religion, education and culture...concepts I hope to expatiate further in subsequent posts.
Finally, if the truth about our trite behaviors is deemed insults, so be it. However you may challenge anything I have said here that is false.

When SAS makes an ambiguous statement, then what he says is not clear or direct. In that case SAS is being evasive. What SAS says is capable of being understood in more than one. SAS in trying to be evasive or resorting to ambiguity is not meeting the subject honestly and directly, but "driving around" it.
SAS, 'appeared' according to you seems 'to be' but to me and probably to all Ghanaians 'appear' is really to "come to" view especially from a distance or a hidden place. That hidden place is the mind of a truckle who sees Karma where there is none.
You have indeed made references to our religion, education, and culture but I ask you again for the cures.
Dr. SAS, slime is a word with wonderful sound, and is distant cousin to the Latin limus, "mud".
Your explanation is close to the cousin of slime.

The blood of the innocent will never be washed away so these feeble bullshit attempts to shift the blame will never fly. Bull shit will kill you one day Mr Finance minister, that's what happens when you surround yourself with pepeni toilet carriers all day. How many projects have you and your cronies frustrated so that you can collect bribe money in advance ? In this particular case you are talking about the Conti group who paid up but what about the rest who didnt ? We know about the high rise project which included sewage and drainage systems for much of Accra and didnt cause debt or should we mention the railway project which also have the same together with optical cables and other infrastructure . We are aware of at least 4 other projects that would have solved this problem but under this NDC corrupt govt will never see the light of day . Yes we told you we have gathered evidence of your wickedness and cruelty together with your Anti Akan agenda and plan to release these facts to the media 2 to 3 months before the elections globally so when the time comes none of you will have anywhere to hide . Yes we have all the documents and data .We shall not only remove you from there but make sure you all go to jail . Ass for JJ we shall lynch him and hang him by his balls for all to see as he has no respect for his betters and talks shit about murdered mills .this ayigbe sorry ass attempt to back track on his stupid statements , some one should tell him stupidity is not considered constructive criticisms but is simple skinpain . Mils will always be the better man because he is a Fanti and Akan deep thinker and intellectual and JJ nothing but a yes sir massa bugu buga retarded idiot bastard. Bad luck and pestilence will be on our heads until we get rid of this pepeni/ayigbe menace

Hello Osei I think you've got Sam wrong and added a political twist to his write-up.I would classify the unfortunate disaster as a preventable occurrence. If the drainage systems had been taken care off by successive administrations then it could have been regarded as a natural disaster. I will also add that we should leave out the politics. What's your view?. Do you agree?

On the inappropriate statements that come from our leaders, you give the impression that things were better in the past - i.e. our past leaders said better things. But, SAS, it has always been like that. Our leaders have NOT always said the right things. I can even say that these days, they stand a greater chance of being exposed for their ill-thought out comments than before. But they have always been like that. Always.
On ghanaweb comments, I wish you can put things in perspective. ghanaweb allows anybody to put up anything, anytime. There is not as much filth on the other Ghanaian sites that have even the slightest monitoring system (e.g. myjoyonline, modernghana). Any site that allows a free for all shows such tendencies. There are a few UK sites with more insults than on ghanaweb - this time from people whose native language is English and who, thereby, can really insult in that language. I don't think Ghanaians as a whole are worse human beings than the rest because of the bad language we see on ghanaweb.
And, SAS, you, too, are as Ghanaian as the rest of us - with some of the characteristics you castigate in your piece. Two examples: even though you may be admired for writing strongly against ethnocentrism of all kinds in our society, sometimes, you, too, fall so low as to indulge in personal insults of the worst kind (not tribal type) in the comments you make on ghanaweb. 2. the Accra mayor is being feted for being the best in Africa. But the fact is that we Ghanaians love and adore titles, degrees, accolades, appellations, etc. You, SAS, are a typical Ghanaian in that sense too.
As usual, the litany of the ills afflicting us is a long one in your piece. The solutions are rather brief. That, in itself, isn't necessarily bad because one solution can resolve a string of ills. More problematic is the fact that your suggested solutions are somewhat bland (for want of a better term). When you sum up by saying "we ought to build the stronger and broader national policy framework encompassing our education, religions, media, art and cultural traditions, and having as its sole aim the things we have to do to make our country truly great", I say the issue is not so much that we are not aware that we have to that. The more difficult question is: why are we not doing that which we know we have to do to get us out of the morass? What are the PRACTICAL (WORKABLE) STEPS rather than the platitudinal injunctions that are so easy to come up with? Perhaps we'll see more of those in the coming parts of your series.
And lastly, I really, really (cos I said this bf) wish you will stop saying things like:
"So I was not surprised when our educational system was deemed the worst on the globe."
You may be exposing your statistical illiteracy. Even those who conducted the study would not make such a conclusive statement. (Saying that you were being hyperbolic won't cut it. You know, as well as I do, that the average ghanaweber does not go for hyperbole, sarcasm, satire, irony, etc. unless you give him very clear markers and, thereby, spoil your story...) If you had said something to the effect that our educational system was deemed among the worst in the world, you would have been nearer the truth. Mind you, I am not saying our educational system is not the worst in the world. It may well be, but there are no statistics that show that!
Sorry for the long input. I am not here often these days and limit my comments to only certain writers and/or topics I deem worthy of spending my time on...
