As the bona fide head of the History dept, of a reputable university in the country, Dr. Amoako Baah should not have come out to say that "Lincoln never built anything".
President Lincoln did build the transcontinental railroads which helped open up the interior regions of the US to exploration and settlement, and made America the global power it is today.
And this is something Dr. Baah is obliged to communicate to his students who are studying the history of U.S.

Outstanding article. Those of us who knew Richard from elementary school to secondary school to Knoxville College and beyond are not shocked by his behaviour. The question is did KNUST do any due deligence when Richard was hired or made the head of the department? The prestige of an institution is tied to the head of that institution. The larger question is what premium does the world put on the history/political science department at KNUST because of its association with Richard?
The other point is the cynical news media always touting Amoako Baah as the head of political science department. When this guy appeared on Newsfile he was a HUGE disappointment.

Please stop condemning Dr. Amoako Baah. At least he was in the US like you and has gone back home to help build the nation. You must give it to him for all his contributions in the Political arena of the country. We need to be challenging the status quo if we want to grow as a society.
Nkrumah etc. were all humans and they were not perfect. Pointing out imperfection of some of our leaders are the only way to learn lessons so we do not repeat the mistakes they made going forward.
Dr. Amoako Baah has also put KNUST in the lime light. Our engineers there are the ones to link this fine Nkrumah University to the public with their inventions and creation, but they are unable to do so.
We need practical political scientists to play the role been played by Dr. Amoako Baah currently.
What Dr. Amoako Baah has done within the short period of time he has been in Ghana is not only to educate the few political science students at KNUST. What he has done uniquely, is to teach the whole Ghanaian public politics in simple ways that can be understood by the even the common man on the street. He has brought the classroom to the public which never existed before using the media and ICT.
How then can his teaching be almost useless?
In fact, he is the best political scientist in the country at the moment. He was the first to boldly forecast that, the government will seek the support of the IMF. And what happened? When he did so, how many of us believed him?
What is wrong with Ghanaians is that we have been brought up not to challenge the status quo, but if we continue to follow this wrong training, we will never become a force to be reckoned within the global socio-economic and political circles.
Bravo to Dr. Amoko Baah, the best type of professional will need in the country - The pragmatic political scientist for all Ghanaians.

Prof Amoako Baah may be the best history lecturer Ghana has ever known but that is not saying much. Most of our classroom educated elite love the unbridled ignorance with which the uneducated and under-educated worship at their feet. And it is the respect we offer the educated elite that spurs on acts of mediocity and wanton foolishness of the elite class. Did Dr. Amoako Baah invent computers, history, black and or white board or any of the tools he uses in the classroom? Dr. Amoako Baah is a jackass and he knows it (having studied in a souther state in the USA where prejudices and discrimination based on race is the order of the day because of ignorance and a majority of uneducated citizenry) to stoop to gutter level espousing suppositions he knows good and darn well are not supported by facts and theory but by tribal and political party envy. Dr. Amoako Baah chose the limelight and social importance he enjoys in a fish bowl rather than play in the open sea where his U of Tennessee earned PhD in history command swagger. He is a disgrace to classroom education and his students are more likely to carry with them the ignorance of carrying classroom earned education but with little to show in the way of logical thinking and debate positions based on facts and principled adherence to standards.

FURTHER, given circumstances and context, we really do not believe one has to be in Ghana 100% of the time to contribute to Ghana's nation building effort. In fact several years ago, we donated books and professional journals to one of the departments at KNUST - while we were residing outside Ghana.
So, you can say that probably we started contributing to KNUST/Ghana, before Prof Amoako Baah got into the Chairman's chair in that department.
Still, our hats are off to those in Ghana 100%!
But, not to those in government (politicians, civil servants, teachers, etc.), stealing from the people and/or riding roughshod over the people with lies, half-truths, conjectures, and self-serving political messages hat have no basis in fact and detract from the Unitary Vision that was chartered by Dr. Kwame Nkrumah for Ghana.
YOUR: "...What Dr. Amoako Baah has done within the short period of time he has been in Ghana is not only to educate the few political science students at KNUST..."
OUR COMMENT: We hope it will remain "a few", given the "train wreak" that is developing.
More important, tell your hero to get his data straight, and to fix that 2007-2008-era webpages for the Department of History and Political Studies, KNUST. That department's current online profile is a poor reflection on all of us. After all, you never know who wants to assist and may need accurate information about that department, and KNUST.

Prof. Lungu, I doff my hat for you. You have systematically taken this educated illiterate to the cleaners and put him where he really belong. It is only those with serious celebral deformities, who would insult you as has always been their behaviour. If there is any single and confused and frustrated man who, due to his low esteems, needs attention, it's this so called prof. Amoako Baah. He has demonstrated over the years that he is not fit the least, to head such important department of that University. The guy is openely bias to the extend that he will never see anything positive about people who don't think like him. Sometimes I pity students who may not tow his tribalistic and shallow thinking lines. He has every right as a Ghanaian, to support any political party of his choice. But he shouldn't do it in the name of the University. More important but sadly, he is doing a lot of harm to the students by infesting them with lies for his own parochial interest. How can such a character head such important department like the KNUST? You see, Lungu, you have to understand what Nkrumah's Marxist Materialist debate with Danquah's Philosophy of Personhood or Individual Liberty was about before you can presume to take on Dr. Amoako-Baah.
I will deal with this when I have time. But let's get this straight and out of the way: Abraham Lincoln is more remembered for his unification of modern United States and the Abolition of Slavery, as well as his most profound and simple rhetorical truths about democratic cultural praxis, and not the building of mansions and monuments.
You see, it was this same subliminal quality of thought that differentiated Dr. Danquah from Mr. Nkrumah. Unfortunately, Nkrumaists are not very well-trained philosophers and thinkers to appreciate this reality.
I am also profoundly sorry that Prof. Lungu has decided to irreparably embarrass himself this way.

YOUR: "...Abraham Lincoln is more remembered for his unification of modern United States and the Abolition of Slavery..."
OUR COMMENT: Done that! Significantly, Lincoln's primary objective was that Unitary thing, the Nkrumah way.
1. The slavery thing was a secondary objective - but just for those secessionist states in the south: Emancipation Proclamation did not free all slaves.
In fact, it just so happened the South over played their hand.
2. We are saying Nkrumah is the George Washington of Ghana, that Nkrumah was a Pacesetter for Ghana/Africa. (If you know US history you will know some of the titles proposed for George. Washington:
"Your Excellency"
"Your Highness"
"Your Most Benign Highness."
"His Exalted Highness."
Even John Quincy Adams proposed "His Highness, the President of the United States, and Protector of the Rights of the Same."
4. Therefore, it is pathetic that same Confederate traitors will stoop to complain that Nkrumah was called "Osagyefo". And so, even as they were all crying under that death-knell pallanquin about that title, they thought is was a great idea to appropriate that same title and bestow on the dead man.
Nice try!

Dear Prof. Lungu,
The quote below summarizes Abraham Lincoln's position on the relationship between preserving the American unitary state (Union) at all cost and the status of American slavery as it related to his unification project.
This is what he wrote:
"My paramount object in this struggle is to save the Union, and is not either to save or to destroy slavery. If I could save the Union without freeing any slave I would do it, and if I could save it by freeing all the slaves I would do it; and if I could save it by freeing some and leaving others alone I would also do that. What I do about slavery, and the colored race, I do because I believe it helps to save the Union; and what I forbear, I forbear because I do not believe it would help to save the Union. I shall do less whenever I shall believe what I am doing hurts the cause, and I shall do more whenever I shall believe doing more will help the cause."
I have provided a number of authoritative sources (mostly primary and some secondary and tertiary) already on this question, yet some readers can here to misquote or misrepresent Lincoln's position on these matters.
People will be shocked to learn about Lincoln's position on slavery should I begin to outline them here. I will not finish today or in the next few months to come. Neither am willing to recall all the primary (secondary/tertiary) sources here!
Fact is, "freeing" slavery was merely incidental to Lincoln's overriding desire to prevent the Union from breaking up. This is one such area I have spent considerable time studying. Let us not try twisting data here.
I will take up this question at the appropriate time!
Thanks.

Dear Brother Andy K,
How are you?
Thanks for your insightfully succinct remarks, Brother Andy K. Let me add my own take on the debate:
"RE: OKOAMPA AHOOFE: "Abraham Lincoln is more remembered for...the Abolition of Slavery"
A "PROCLAMATION" to outlaw in certain parts is not equal to "ABOLITION" in all parts.
The "Proclamation" was issued 1 Jan., 1863. But word did not get to Texas/Galveston until 2-and-half years later, on 19 June, 1865. That is why in Texas, Louisiana and other places, the "Proclamation" is actually celebrated on 19 June (Juneteenth).
In fact, when Lincoln was murdered by the confederates DC, in April, 1865, the "Proclamation" itself had not even reached Texas.
The US did not abolish slavery until the 13th Amendment to the Constitution was ratified 6 Dec. 6, 1865, 8 months after the death of Lincoln.
Some References:
1) Slavery by Another Name: The Re-Enslavement of Black Americans from the Civil War to World War II (Slavery by Another Name: The Re-Enslavement of Black Americans from the Civil War to World War II).
2)Forced into Glory: Abraham Lincoln's White Dream ( Lerone Bennett Jr.)
3) The Real Lincoln: A New Look at Abraham Lincoln, His Agenda, and an Unnecessary War (Thomas DiLorenzo)
4) Lincoln Unmasked: What You're Not Supposed to Know About Dishonest Abe (Thomas DiLorenzo)
5) War Crimes Against Southern Civilians (War Crimes Against Southern Civilians).
I wish I had time to provide a long list of all the authoritative sources on the question. This will surely come later! Fact is, Lincoln ("Emancipation Proclamation") did not "free" any slave. It is all revisionist history!
Thanks.

This benighted instructor at Nassau County Community College(he has been prohibited from using the College's name on Ghanaweb and others)is so jealous of Nkrumah's educational achievements(MS,MA University of Pennsylvania,an Ivy League school, and courses at London School of Economics)that he goes bonkers when the Founder of Ghana's name is mentioned. Ah! You should have also mentioned that Nkrumah actually completed all course works and submitted his PhD dissertation but it was rejected on ideological grounds, being considered as too "Marxist". The signs of MCarthyism to come after the war.
Instead of reviewing it and giving some breathing room to the imperialists, he chose to leave the US to start a new one in the UK. Marika dealt with this issue in her book on Nkrumah.
In my opinion, he should have refused the honorary one they decided to give him later to pacify him, and re-submit his dissertation again with some slight changes for approval and the award of an academic PhD. After all, Einstein reputedly re-submitted his rejected one again with only some cosmetic changes to lengthen it, as the first one was rejected for being too short! Imagine that!
