They even have assurances to jobs upon completion. What is their problem ? People must drop politics and deal with this issue in a realistic manner.

If the government should put themselves in the shoes of teacher trainees he would have given them their allowance because this guys are really suffering. The second years will be going to teaching practice soon and what pains me most is that they will be sent to some typical villages where life is uncomfortable, they have no option but to sacrifice and teach without any allowance, they have to cater for themselves and even buy teaching materials with their own money. Most of these people are from a poor home and how will they survive without allowance, I think the government is being unfair to them they really have to do something about this.

Mahama distributed toll booths and toilets to foot soldiers with no accountability. Went on a borrowing spree to share with his gang of thieves. Now there is no more money to loot. Now tell me what should he do?

U conveniently left out the fact that Busia also cancelled the alawa. This is disingenuous. The reason for the a laws was to encourage more ppl to go for TRG as teachers. Today, the colleges are taking less than a fifth of those who qualify n apply. There is therefore no need to continue with that incentive when it has lost its relevance.
Again, the colleges were upgraded to diploma status. The question then is why shd some diploma institutions get alawa n others not? The a laws was withdrawn n replaced with the student loan scheme. Let's find out how many teacher trainees have taken the loans? Almost zero. This means that the a laws was just to meet students luxurious lives n no more a necessity. Ucc n ucew train teachers. Do teachers in these institutions take alawa?
We all need the progress of this nation n shd support measures that will improve on our lots. Let's discuss national issues impartially.
What I expect us to be doing is accepting this loud able policy that seeks to increase enrollment and save govt some costs to reduce budget deficit. Let's also be strong on government to stop appointees from the wanton dissipation of our resources, corruption n incompetence n together we shall succeed. We have only one Ghana as our home.

Dear Luther King,
It appears you missed the premise of the write up. It was not about whether or not the Alawa is to be restorted.
It was about the behavior of the individual who without any knowledge about the students' reaction to Ablakwa chose to organize hoodlums to confront an innocent person.
Your response indicated someone who had made up his mind about the Alawa and therefore had no time to analyse what someone had to say about it.
Such perception made you fall into the category of the person for which the last paragraph seemed to refer to.

If the NDC government really wants to reduce government expenditure on education, then it must be bold to withdraw the free education program for the Northerners. That program has definitely outlived it's usefulness. Dr. Kwame Nkrumah instituted that selective social program to help the imbalance in the educational level of the citizens in the North, and what are we seeing today? Your guess is as good as mine. The teacher/nursing trainees allowances is the ONLY allowance that is enjoyed across the board for Ghanaians from all the regions. NDC should, if not for political reasons, be bold enough to cancel that and save Ghana some money.
