We all know that tribalism is alive in Ghana and it is exploited by all politicians so what is the brouhaha about. Historically most of the minority tribes sort for jobs in the Akan areas -- other than Accra which is the capital so obviously had a lot of white color jobs. The folks in the North and the Volta regions worked on the cocoa farms, Takorady harbor, and the many mines in the Akan areas and currently on the oil fields in the Western Region. I am guessing that was what was being referred to on the infamous tape, also we have to factor in the context in which the words were said - a party meeting with Eastern Region chiefs, how else was he going to get their attention and fire them up.
The last I checked these minerals, oil, and cocoa are still the major exports of Ghana. When it comes to taxation obviously the majority tribe would pay more taxes than the minority tribes. I am actually at this point not sure what we are debating here. Isn't a fact the Akans are the majority tribe and also generate more in their areas?
I really don't care about the two major parties because for me they are all the same really -- I don't think we should choose our presidents and leaders based on areas of major contributions to the economy but more so by competence, merit etc., unfortunately because our society is so tribalistic, we often end up with the wrong flagbearers and presidents. I don't care what tribe the president comes from so long as he/she is working for the people. It seems our arguments are getting into the weeds because we let our tribal affiliations cloud our thinking and objectivity.

Mr Third Party sit up to understand the situation before commenting. It is people like you who voice out things without any in depth analysis that hinders Ghana`s progress. Be told that without cocoa, timber, gold diamomond, bauxite, agricultural products and fishery and oil, Ghana tertially production ie service will collapse completely not partially. Ghana`s service sector depends not less than 90% on imports which needs foreign exchange( Euro, dollar, Jen, CFA etc) which are up to not less than 95% earned through the export of Cocoa, timber, diamond, gold bauxite and oil to operate. With this I think you don`t need to be in primary class one to understand the ever worsening of Ghana`s economy on daily basis. Putting tribal and ethnocentric politics aside what Osafo Marfo said is very right and if he really said it must be bold to defend it despite its sensetivity. Because of the over dependant of the country`s enconomy on the production of those resource it is more than essential to have people who have been living and will have to live with the production effect of those resources to manage them more so when the other way round has failed misrably. The on going dumsor in Ghana is enough evidence why people with in depth knowledge of the production process schould be the managers. Would Omane Boamah, Ephson, White and yourself have attacked Osafo Marfo had he said that the Minister of Energy and Power must be an engineer with a track record in Energy production? No serious engineer would have extended the electricity in Ghana so that the load exceeds the least possible supply as has obviously been done by the non engineer politicians ( Presidents especially Rawlings, Ministers and administrators from VRA and ECG.

Individuals employed in this sector produce services rather than products. Examples of service sector jobs include housekeeping, psychotherapy, tax preparation, guided tours, nursing and teaching. By contrast, individuals employed in the industrial/manufacturing sector might produce goods such as cars, clothing and toys.
Countries with primarily service-based economies are considered to be more advanced than countries with primarily industrial or agricultural economies. Examples of countries with a heavy emphasis on the service sector include the United States, Australia, Japan and the United Kingdom. In the U.S

There are three forms of production 1.) Primary Production consisting of Agriculture, Mining and forestry (Lumbering and timber, 2.) Secondary Production ie Manufacturing and 3.)Tertiary Production ie the production of all forms of services. Countries like Ghana and most African countries with earnings in the primary and secondary production sectors than the needed services have economic problems as the provided or produce services have to be paid for and the money must come from some where. The problem becomes more drastic when just as it is in Ghana the exports from the primary and secondary production are far less than the imports needed for the production means of the tertiary production. Countries with sound economies with greater tertiary production have either strong currencies from their exports or exports more than they they import lke the oil rich countries. It is no surprise that Accra contributes more artificial income than any region in Ghana considering the fact that most consumers of services live in Accra. Ghana would have been better off if the money given out for services in Accra were earned there or even Ghana. Don`t know that in all the coutries in your example.ie US,Australia, Japan and Great Britain earn or has earned more money from their primary and secondary sectors to develope their tertiary sector. You have to understand what you write. The economic activities in Accra will collapse over night should Accra be decoupled from the primary and secondary production centres of Ghana.

The argument boils down to the fact the all the sectors the primary, secondary and tertiary sectors complement each other and that is why is is wrong to assume that the primary sector alone carries the economic burden of the nation. The secondary sector is mostly in Accra and Tema. The service sector or the tertiary sector generates virtually all its revenue from Accra but that is not to say that the people of Accra should control the means and distribution of the national wealth, that will be racist and bigotry.
The reasonable approach is to understand and accept that all the sectors complement each other and together we generate the national wealth, any other way will be narrow thinking and bigotry.

No and no again because the tertiary sector is on a wrong footing in Ghana. Ghana cannot afford to continue to deny the workers of the primary sector of basic services to support the secondary and tertiary sectors in the cities especially Accra more especially when there is ethnic or tribal diversity in Ghana and government appointment are not etnic, tribal or regionally balanced. The development the means of production of both secondary and tertiary sectors by the central government must be a reflection of the ethnic or tribal diversification of the country with special consideration to the production and after production effects of the primary sector especially in the mining of minerals and oil and timber. Every Ghanaian irrespective of his or her tribal or ethnic origin must be able to discuss it with the affected citizens without fear or favour for being accuse of tribal bigotry or threatening the unity of Ghana. Do Gas not control and sell the means of production lands in Accra? The nonsense of preventing people from talking about wrong political decision or tribal politics by accusing them of being tribal bigots must stop before the situation explodes.

Justice, even if Osafo Marfo said this, the question is whether it it true or not. They NDC knows what Osafo Marfo said is true if indeed he said it. Whatever it is, this is not a bread and butter issue. It is the least of the things that worries Ghanaians at the moment. What worries Ghanaians is how NDC will solve the POWER PROBLEM which has brought the nation unto its knees. When Ghanaians have become beggers in their own country. Everyone including NDC sympathizers are all suffering, but because of hypocrisy, they do not agree with what NPP did to bring the attention of Ghanaians on this issue. Some of their leaders knowing the fallout of the demonstration are hypocratically trying hard to side with NPP on this issue because of the massive support it generated, but on the backside, they are against it. Let NDC build castles in the air for Ghanaians and if they fail to solve the power problems and many numerous others that is confronting the nation, no amount of shouting from the roof top and top of their lungs that NPP is practising bigtory can hange the minds of Ghanaians to let them win the election 2016. In 2012 one of their messages was that since party politics started every govenment has been allowed to rule for two years and so NDC should be given the chance to rule for one more term. Although they did not win the elections but was stolen for them by the high court judges; if that was their campaign, then it is time also for them to go since they will be completing the two terms by next year. NDC should know that their days are numbered and should start preparing their handing over notes for a more competent government to take over. Time will surely tell.

This contribution to the debate has done more disservice and harm to Osarfo Marfo than help his cause. If Sarpong is telling us that it is okay for a senior politician to preach discrimination in the creation and distribution of the national wealth then he must have a problem.
It would have been a better argument to say like Osarfo Marfo said himself that he had been misquoted and leave the matter to die a natural death. But to give credence to the story and defend it on flimsy grounds that the President said if he even paves the street with gold in Kumasi, the die hard npp supporters will still say he has done nothing,is it not true to say that.Is this not common sense that opponents hardly appreciate your good things and that is natural especially in politics.
I think there should be a rejoinder from the Marfo camp to protest against this supposed support from Sarpong which will in the long ran do Sarfo and the npp more harm than good. Even For a senior politician to say Akans create the national wealth therefore they should hold power is not only an insult to non Akans in the npp but the country as a whole.

Ghana is a Unitary State and as such allocates the natural resources within its geographical space equitably between all the 10 regions. The analysis of Ghana’s natural resource based on ethnicity is not only dangerous but very stupid, backward and unintelligent and must be condemned by all decent-minded Ghanaians.
It really seems some Ghana’s haven’t learnt anything from what triggered conflicts in Rwanda, Liberia and Sierra Leone etc. and are trying to amplify ethnic differences in Ghana to their advantage. All those bigots or extremists care about is obtaining political power by any means possible and not the general well-being of the entire citizenry. This kind of politicking to say the lease is dirty, retrogressive and inward-looking. Ghanaians deserve a better discourse based on grander ideas.

You are really stupid and your nonsense about Rwanda and Liberia has nothing to do with the issue here. If you want a better comparison, use Boko Haram instead who believe the government is depriving the oil producing states with development and are using religion to mask the real problem.

You have disgracefully validated the concerns I raised in my earlier post and I know it's very characteristic of your some of you guys on this forum. You claim to be very intelligent but how could you appreciate someone's comment or analysis when you fail to read it in context?
You just stated that I should forget about what Mr. Osafo Marfo is reported to have said and you went ahead to attack my person forgetting that my comment was within a particular context or relates to what the politician said.
Wow, which intelligent person analyses issues in the manner you've just demonstrated on this forum?
You should have rather proved to your audience that your analysis is very cerebral but the attacks on my person are most unfortunate.
Well, let me educate you here that, Nigeria runs a federal system of governance so the allocation of natural resources in a federal system is not same as in a Unitary State and I stated that in my opening comment. How could you miss that and rather call me names?
Please do a contextual analysis of people's comments before you expose your ignorance here.
The bottom-line is that, we must not tolerate any socially divisive discourse in our politics and I hope this is NOT very difficult to understand?

The fact that Nigeria runs a federal state does not change anything in this discussion. Nigeria might be a federal system but it still has a central government.
Nigeria federal system is really in name only as their state government don't have control of their natural resources as it pertains in USA where in Alaska residents are given yearly stipends for oil royalties.
In Nigeria, the central government controls the natural resources in each state and the oil producing states has no say about how their oil money is used which has created animosity against the federal government by the indigenous of these oil producing states.
The only difference between Nigeria and Ghana is Nigeria calling their regions states, other than that, Nigeriais run like a unitary state, so get a better example of a federal ggovernment than Nigeria.

My initial comment had nothing to do with Federalism whatsoever. It's rather in your uninformed comment and attack on my person that you cited Boko Haram as a better example than Rwanda etc.
Anyway I hope you're NOT by your argument, stating that Nigeria does not have State governments that determine the allocation of its natural resources? Do know how the Northern States of Nigeria passed the Sharia Law in their State parliaments and the Federal Government could not prevent them?
Please I am not attempting to discuss the pro and cons of resource allocation in a federal or a unitary system of governance.
I just stated that, Ghana as a unitary State, its natural resources must be allocated equitably (I.e. Fairly and NOT Equally) among its 10 regions. And you must understand that statement before exposing your ignorance once again. You either did not understand my comment or you deliberately failed to appreciate the principle of resource allocation in a unitary system of governance. Your argument about concentration of development in Accra is misplaced and has nothing to do the point I put across.
Again Mr. Osafo Marfo's problem has to do with people from non-Akan regions ruling Ghana which is very condemnable and unless you think like him or are politically and tribalistically blinded.
Your problem stems from the fact that you fail to understand words as used in context hence your quick condemnation of my comment without the import of my statement. I do not really know whether you are justifying Mr. Osafo Marfo's divisive comments or not but that's your cup of tea. I leave it to your conscience because that was the thrust of my statement.
You can better educate yourself on federalism and the Nigerian system of governance later. But please think with your HEAD & HEART and you would appreciate the fact NO politician should amplify the differences of Ghanaians and exploit them on ethnic or tribal grounds.

"Madam," he said in a broken voice, "I wish to draw your attention to the terrible plight of a poor family in this district. The father is dead, the mother is too ill to work, and the nine children are starving. They are about to be turned into the cold, empty streets unless someone pays their rent, which amounts to $400."
"How terrible!" exclaimed the preacher's wife. "May I ask who you are?"
The sympathetic visitor applied his handkerchief to his eyes. "I'm the landlord," he sobbed.

It is healthy when President Mahama told Northerners to vote for him because he is a Northerner and it is their time to be voted for to be President, huh?
Akans are seeing the hypocrisy of the other tribes. Of all the comments made on this article, none of you Akan haters and bigots have spoken against what Rawlings, Mills and Mahamah said that is worse than what Osafo Marfo is alleged to have said because all those three were Presidents.
What has been confirmed to me so far by people like you and others is that, I am right when I said other tribes have a carte blanche card to practise their bigotry against Akans and Akans are expected to take it without complaining.
Akans have taken it for the longest and tired of it. If such statements are unhealthy, then Ndc with its majority Northerners and Ewe supporters should stop their ethnocentric comments too.

Justice,
Frankly, I don't see what this hulabaloo is all about. It is idiots like Ephson who with their nonsensical effusions make it possible for the non-discerning among us to vote for incompetent people like Ata Mills and Mahama.
When the Chiefs of Ada say “Ada Songor salt ifs for Adas,” that is alright isn’t it? When Atta Mills says, “ Habanasfo wonnyin hom ehiasem na Adze wo fie oye”, it is no big deal or is it?
When the chiefs of the Volta Region hire a bus to troop to Accra to protest the arrest and detention of the criminal Woyome it is ok because it is “mia deka?”
When the chiefs of Nzema threatened Mahama and forced him to appoint the incompetent Armah Kofi Buah as Minister of Energy it was ok, because it was only “ebiamo?”
Let anybody provide the ethnic distribution of Ghana and match it with Mahama’s cabinet and other appointments and convince me that we are not already practising tribal politics in Ghana.
Sometime, I get very disappointed with my own people because for the people the Central, Western and Brong Ahafo to even think of giving 500,000 votes to the arch-tribalist Jerry Rawlings’s party is in itself an act of tribal injustice!

What folks like you and Ahoofe dont know or understand since you have been our of the country for so long like wise old man Osafo Marfo is that these days the young generation from 30s and below are inter marrying and inter dating like crazy.
So that puritan Akan, Ga, Ewe, North is fast disappearing esp for those in the large cities hence when you offend one you will intermittently offend many. The NDC is keenly aware and have done a better job containing their men from making ungaurded statements that are capable of doing damage.
The sad truth is there some tribalism in every one just like racism, the difference is how we make others feel around us. Sady most of the ppl that voted for the NDC did not vote for the NDC because they believed the NDC is better than the NPP. They did so because they couldnt tolerate some of the people and their unguarded statements like what you are here defending.
And when NDC fails all of us fails whether Akan Ewe Ga, North or whatever.

What ever the ethnocentric NDC do, Akans will forever continue to be the most influent social economic powers of Ghana with naturally gifted resources.
The bigotry NDC riffrafs can go ahead to play their diabolical ethnocentric politics to place few of their people in every government offices and still see the majority of their people and areas made the poorest and under developed.
Osarfo Marfo will be always correct even if it happens he did said what is on the said tape. Ghana is sitting on tribal timing bomb as the majority are openly marginalized in all places including government employment, state scholarships and political appointments.
Just go to the ministries today in Ghana and make a careful observation of the people employed, it's as if all of a sudden Ghana is made of only people from the north.
The most bigotry tribalists with diabolical plan against the Akan speaking people especially the Ashantes are the Kofi Awoonors, Tsakatas and the Rawlingses.
Why is the most criminally corrupt institution like SADA formed to undertake developing projects only for Volta, 3 Northern regions and the northern part of the Brong Ahafo regions which is dominantly northerners? again why?
Come to the Ashante areas that people hate so much hate to kill and see other tribesmen and their families happily and comfortably settled when same can not be said at the other regions.
The fact is because of lack of education and understanding the non-Akan people who by all standard are so nice meeting them one-on-one yet allow themselves to be fool by their tribal elites to preach divisive tribal hates for their own selfishly greedy political and material satisfaction for only their comfort staying in Accra whilst their own people pathetically suffer in abject poverty in the neglected regions.
Tribalism is dangerously a political tool and we all need to condemn it than making selective condemnation before Ghana becomes another Ivory Coast or Kenya.
