If J.B Danquah hadn't been born at all patriotic Ghanaians would've still overthrow Nkrumah with or without the help of CIA because, his leftward tendencies had reached a point of no return. The guy was a red sickle communist of the Starling, Pol pot and Idi Amin type of human-being.
Every Ghanaian cursed the day that this cunning, dishonest man was invited to join the UGCC as its General Secretary when he proved to be the mother of all traitors in Ghana. It was, therefore, legitimate and even desirable to get rid of that callous, one party state and president for life communist dictator. And I congratulate Kotoka and his friends once again for securing our second independence and delivering us from the grips of Kwame Nkrumah; one of the most dangerous human beings that ever lived on the African continent.

Dr SAS, another well written article to debunk the usual Nkrumah praise singing Nkrumah did no wrong argument.
The damage the Nkrumah KGB indoctrination did to the psyche of Ghanaians permeated all people of social status and sadly those that suffered most were the educated elites who were given Russia scholarships to go and learn how not to use their brains but to behave like robots.
They believe in that Mahoney book that says J.B Danquah was a CIA Agent but when the same book portrayed Nkrumah as a murderer and a coup Plotter who was behind the assassination of President Olympio of Togo and his attempt to eliminate President Houphiet Boigny of Ivory Coast, then Mahoney should not to be believed. How do you have discourse with people who behave like lobotomized zombies?
I just felt sorry for one of my forum friends a couple of days ago in this forum who argued vehemently with me that Fathia, Nkrumah's wife was the daughter of former Egyptian President, Nasser. This Fathia was Nasser daughter was a propaganda Cpp and Nkrumah perpetuated in our minds as children and I thought that fable has been discarded and exorcised from the minds of Ghanaians but we still have these brainwashed "Cpppians" believing Nkrumah, their god was married to President Nasser's daughter. These robots are beyond salvation, Dr SAS.

Illiterate fool, you don't have to physically pull a gun to kill somebody for you to be called a murderer. If you plan to get somebody killed and the person per your instruction or command gets killed, you are a murderer. The fact that Ettiene Eyadema killed Olympio does not mean he was not goaded by somebody to do that. Have you head what is called CO-COINSPIRATOR?
You are the same moron that was telling me to read Mahoney's book that made Danquah a CIA Agent and you believe what was written in the book, huh? In the same book, Mahoney says Nkrumah was behind Olympio's assassination and now you fool don't believe in that book anymore?

The whole premise of this tantrum vilifying Nkrumah is that he instituted a "brutal dictatorship" on Ghanaians. This, of course, is patently false. When even those who overthrew him claimed that they did so in order to avert the "creeping dictatorship" he was introducing, and thus to prevent him from imposing a dictatorship, how come these latter day grave digging, intellectual fakirs now talk about something which was not perceived as in existence prior to 24th Feb 1966 as a fact?
In fact, something which those of us who read Political Science learned doesn't really exist in practice? The nearest a modern govt, esp. in the LDCs where the presence of govt is only felt marginally in the urban areas, can get close to is being autocratic or authoritarian. Certainly not dictatorial, as the govt doesn't have the capacity to enforce rule by dictation. So for example, it said that a modern Western Prime Minister or President wields more power of control than one of those wild Roman Emperors such as Nero and Caligula!
Btw, IGP Harlley was married to one of my many aunties who happened to be a lawyer. And my dad was one of those top civilian officers trained as army and police officers to serve as reservists to be called to service when the need arose. He knew every top gun that was worth knowing. I heard more from the house than most would ever read from all the books in the libraries 'cos you won't find some of those things in the books anyway.
As for detentions under PDA, it is too late for me to locate and present some quotes from the Dzabanor Committee, set up by the NLC to investigate the riots in 1967 after the failed counter-coup. The Report was apt in pointing out that the detentions from Anloga were engineered locally thanks to local disputes, and cannot be blamed on the CPP, not to mention Nkrumah. The small town Anloga no doubt provided more detainees than any other town. And my maternal family side no doubt provided more detainees than any other family in Ghana! Many were released before the coup and I know why and how. They were of course innocent, falsely accused by a detainees contractor mentioned in the Report. Hmmm! How that person himself got locked up until the coup when he and his squad went with another batch of would-be detainees probably remained a mystery to him until his own death. I have to confess he was also a relation on my paternal side. You know what? That man reportedly visited Nkrumah in Conakry to pledge his allegiance, having been snubbed by the coup makers after his release! And he didn't even attend school but he spoken broken English and French, as well as and a number of major W. African languages!
If you know a bit of the details of what happened under PDA, you won't blame Nkrumah at and we as a family bear him no grudge. Doesn't the victims weren't pissed off though. One man released after the coup used to see me, just a young boy, with red eyes 'cos he claimed he was left in Nsawam while others were released, thanks to my father.
Anyway, if Nkrumah and the CPP were so unpopular, why didn't he democratic allow them to participate in the 1969 elections, instead of undemocratically banning them and anyone ever connected with the CPP for standing for public office? Even Gbedemah who became they ally was forced to relinquished the Keta seat he won on the NAL ticket! Some democrats!

I don't know of any Nkrumah's achievement of any significance.
The worst fool with the amount and resources Nkrumah had will do far better than Nkrumah. And the worst fool would have refrained from Nkrumah's evil acts if only to keep his kingdom intact.
Now tell me, if you were given the equivalent of say twenty billion dollars, will you go around distributing it to your neighbors in order to impose your bad leadership on them? Will you be using the money to subvert your neighbors who disagree with you? And if after say ten years, you are running around for loans, what will be the quality of your stewardship? And if you sit in your house beating up on your wife and children and friends and benefactors, which neighbor will agree to make you his head of household?
Everything Nkrumah did was about Nkrumah and his self-aggrandizement. There is no record that when he went to America, he sent money to build a house or take care of any family member or adopted any of the numerous orphans in his hometown.
Nkrumah was a welfare basket case before others made him president: People took care of him: People bought his passage to Ghana, housed him, fed him clothed him....And in the end, which one of these people remained his friend by the time he was overthrown? If Nkrumah's past actions is any predictor of his future actions, all these people singing Nkrumah's praises today would end up in his prison cell, even if all their crime is staking a challenge to his popularity by writing on Ghanaweb.
He never saw his wife and children for the entire six years of his life in Guinea until his premature death in 1972 when he only was sixty-two. So instead of talking about his achievements, you should rather discuss his karmic/poetic justice.
Otherwise you can also educate me on the exact achievements of Kwame Nkrumah. I am curious.

Nkrumah inherited in excess of 250 million pounds from the colonial government and spent like there will be no tomorrow. I don't know who advised him on the job 600 project and giving millions away to Guinea and Mali? I guess if had managed a business before, he would have been prudent with our money. No wonder he was shocked when Frimpong Ansah revealed to him in 1965 that our foreign reserves stood at a meagre five hundred thousand pounds. He did some good for the country but he was consumed with his ideological dreams and failed to realize that he was not living in a vacuum. America helped him build the Akosombo dam, but before it was opened, he writes a book calling America names. How was he expecting to remain in power given this insolence in the hight of the Cold War? I wonder why he never critiqued the Soviets. Can Kwarteng help me on this one? And please don't come here extolling the virtues of the Soviet Union because we all know what It did in Eastern Europe.

How nice, Kwadwo! You have conceded Nkrumah did some good for the country, but what good did your CIA agent cum bomb throwing ritual murderer, JB Danquah, do for his country, other than maiming market women and school children in his bomb throwing escapade?
Pontificating the virtue of a serial murderer and a traitorous so called Doyen of Ghana politics is a sure of subjecting your hero JB Danquah to ridicule and disrepute. If the proponents of Danquah had let sleeping dogs lie, a section of the population would not have learned that your hero was complicit in the ritual killing of Apedwahene, Akyea Mensah. Now a section of the people are learning for the first time that your hero was also corrupt to the core by unethically feeding on Okyeman's fund, to which he was a trustee. Notwithstanding the fact of being a CIA agent, we now know that he was behind all nine assassination attempts on Nkrumah's life. This hero of yours had so many skeletons in his closet, and thank God that this debate has surfaced. We are learning a lot more about this traitor and ritual murderer, and it will all be good for our country in the end.
As I have said many times, Nkrumah was too good for his own good. It takes a leader with a strong conviction of purpose to pardon this diabolical JB Danquah in 1958 after he was tried by a competent court and found guilty of treason. We would not be having this conversation if the magnanimous Nkrumah had severed his head and cast his body to the marauding vultures and crows to devour. That is what most leaders do to those who are convicted of treason.
The family of Dr. Kofi Abrefa Busia are very smart people, and I applaud them. They understand clearly dynamics in Ghanaian politics and would rather preserve the integrity of the man than to expose him to ridicule and disrepute as Danquah people are doing now.
Personally, I believe your hero JB Danquah is presently cooling his heels in hell for all the atrocities he committed in his lifetime. The blood of the school children and market women he killed in CPP rallies are upon his head. His untimely death at Nsawam was good riddance anyhow you look at it. He deserved to die, and die he did.

I am Akyemkwaa onum Birim, pure and pure, and those of us from that region do not touch JB Danquah with a ten-foot pole if you understand my import. JB Danquah is an anathema in Akyem Abuakwa folklore, and that is why you do not see people like me come to his defense. I would have loved to beat the drums at the rooftop to castigate anyone who vilify Dr. Danquah, but doing so would not be intellectually sound. It would also put into question my objectivity and reasoning.
That is why I am here defending our history, which is the totality of our nationhood. We should not permit the paralysis of partisan politics cloud our judgment - it is not good for our country. If you have followed my postings in this forum, you would notice that I do not ascribe to any political party - I am a free thinker, not constrained by any ideological stronghold. All I want is the best for my country and do not care who is in government when that happens. But what I will not do is to proffer vain glory on a man of veritable checkered past, JB Danquah.

Much of this piece is just a copy and paste thing from his previous comments. Those who follow his writings know his argument already. I don't see why he found it necessary to write this piece when he has nothing new to add to his argument.
It's interesting. I don't think SAS can remember anything from the Nkrumah times. He was too young when the man was overthrown. I don't think he remembers the Ghana Young Pioneers, their turnouts and displays, songs, pledge and sayings. I wonder if he remembers the jubilation after February 24th, 1966 and the aftermath.
But, sometimes, SAS argues as if he was there and saw it all fiilifiilifili... It robs his arguments of some of its proper context.

Nkrumah did not have any excuse for doing what he did, except that he was preparing the ground with a series of unprovoked actions to create one party state and declare himself president for life.
Communist ideology doesn't have a place for opposition in the system. Have you ever heard of a communist democratic country with an opposition to check excesses of the government? Nkrumah chose communism as a means of keeping himself in power forever. He therefore imposed the 'Detention without Trial Act' only to gag everybody in Ghana, create a communist dictatorship and turn himself into president for life. This is because, communists don't share power.

Danquah and his friends formed UGCC to fight for Independence before Nkrumah was invited to join from his base in USA.
Danquh demanded independence as soon as possible within a decade in 1948 and we got independent in 1957, within the ten years frame he demanded. The fact that Nkrumah demanded Independence Now did not mean Danquah did not want Independence, I don't even think the lobotomized Nkrumah apologists will even make this stupid assertion you are making now but knowing your educational background, I am not surprise you are making a fool of yourself here.
What is your understanding of independence? Did we really get independence in 1957? Not really. We just changed slave masters in 1957 from white colonial masters to a blackdictator who passed the PDA law in 1958 to take our dignity as hhuman beings away. Think, don't just believe what you are told.

" What is your understanding of independence? Did we really get independence in 1957? Not really. We just changed slave masters in 1957 from white colonial masters to a black dictator who passed the PDA law in 1958 to take our dignity as human beings away."
And that really should be the onus of your argument. And this will raise the question as to who really did not want independence for Ghanaians? Is it Danquah who fought all his life for true freedom and justice for Ghana and was died for these values? Or Nkrumah, who performed a charade of independence, became a brutal dictator and proscribed all the freedoms of the people? To my mind, if we talk of the person that never wanted independence for Ghana and Ghanaians, it was Nkrumah the dictator who did not understand what independence, freedom and justice mean, and who thought that these comprised his untrammeled freedom to imprison everybody without trial.

Come on be realistic and fair? Where did Danquah say Ghana should not be granted independence?
Here is what Danquah wrote to Kwame Nkrumah from his prison cells in early 1965:
“Secondly, you will recall that barely a month after our detention in the North in 1948 we were brought down to Accra and released to appear before a Commission of Enquiry set up to investigate the justice or otherwise of our arrest of our arrest and detention. We duly appeared before the Watson Commission and made history for Gold Coast and Ghana. It resulted in the finding that the Burns Constitution was outmoded at birth, with a recommendation that our country should attain its independence within ten years, and that a Constitutional Committee (the Coussey Committee) should be set up to lay down the foundations of such independence and the steps to be taken towards its attainment.”
And here is what Dr SKB Asante (a man who was there) wrote in the Chronicle recently:
“What needs stressing is that when Nkrumah returned home in December 1947, the Gold Coast was on its way to becoming the first independent colony in sub-Saharan Africa. From the general level of political advance being made on all fronts, there was every indication, even in 1946, that the Gold Coast was going to be the first African country to be granted independence in the post – World War II period. The Burns Constitution had given Ghana a considerable African majority in the Legislative Assembly, and set its feet upon the path to independence from which there was no returning. Nkrumah himself admitted in his Autobiography that after delivering his maiden speech to a large meeting in the Accra Palladium on 29 February 1948, he realized ‘that the political consciousness of the people of the Gold Coast had awakened to a point where the time had come for them to unite and strike out for their freedom and independence’ (page 63). This was barely two months after confirmation of his appointment as Secretary-General of the UGCC”
Where do you guys get this ignorant idea of Danquah not wanting independence for Ghana? You may hate the man, even though you did not know him, but even hatred ought to have a realistic and intelligent basis!

Dr SAS, my Ghanaian history is minimal as I studied West African History up to secondary school form three (mainly on the old empires of Ghana, Guinea, Mali). After reading your piece, I fetched F K Buah's book ("A History of Ghana" Macmillian, London, 1980) which he gave to Jerry Rawlings and he also gave it to me to read and still have it.
On reading three pages of Chapter 16 ("Kwame Nkrumah's Administration II: Political Development" pages 182-189), I have come to the conclusion that if the Nkrumahists claim the reason of the PDA in 1958 was the throwing of bombs then they do not know the real reasons for the PDA. The book does not mention throwing bombs but general instability, secessionist movement in Volta-Togoland, activities of regional and tribal political parties, foreigners such Lebanese and others financial subversive activities, intelligence that arms were being brought into the country, etc. The 1962 Kulungugu incident is mentioned in page 185 but not as part of the reasons for the PDA.
I think I will find time to the book since I have never read it to educate myself on a subject that is tearing apart the two political traditions in Ghana apart.

I don't much care about Dr SAS, but to your question, FK Buah's version of events in corroborated by Nkrumah in what I presentedin the two part feries I took from chapter nine of Africa Must Unite.
Also remember that FK Buah's history of Ghana was first published much, much earlier and we sued in in Elementary School in the early 1970s, at a time when writers needed to also tread carefully given the outright ban on anything Nkrumah.
The fact is, our country has had a sad history built on egos, power struggles, envy and jealousy, tribal complexes and various sense of entitled among our early leaders. I see a similar picture today.
All that the first military intervention did was to hand over power to the opposition which sought to dismantle everything that had been set up under the Nkrumah regime, and to replace it with their own brand of what they believed Ghana needed. The fact that Dr SAS "CANNOT see anything significant that Nkrumah did" is a reflection of deep seated beliefs, some of which in my view have been passed down from generation to generation, usually with strong family ties to political beginnings.
It would be interesting to see what we come up with if someone chose to write a historical account of "Ghanaian Political Families". That would help put all this into some perspective.
But the fact that these positions have become so entrenched that people have difficulty making fair and balanced arguments on both sides only proves just how difficult 'early attachments' that define people's personalities and behaviours are difficult to change.

Why must you attach atavistic origins to my assertions about Dr. Nkrumah?
You should scholarly debunk my arguments by telling me what Nkrumah did of any significance, instead of casting innuendoes....
You have no credibility here. Yesterday, you spoke of mass incarcerations of the scientists at Ghana Atomic energy research site. Somebody who worked there debunked your claim; but you did not show up again to discuss the matter and to reaffirm your claim with valid proof. You just vanished with your lies....And now you have just re-appeared here with a yarn Nkrumah told to proscribe freedoms. This yarn is contained in one self-serving paragraph of the several Nkrumah wrote, and the account is no different from what prevailed when Nkrumah arrived on the scene and took advantage of it. In any case any leader who thinks that the best way to rule is through the imposition of fear and totalitarianism is not worth my respect, no matter how that fear induced leadership is excused by prevailing circumstances.
You are now here to claim that I am arguing against Nkrumah because of my family grievance. I have no family grievance with Nkrumah. My father never went to school and my mother never went to school. Like everybody else, my father passionately supported Nkrumah with his money until Nkrumah turned himself into a monster. Then my father became disillusioned and had to build a house in the middle of the forest before he could criticize Nkrumah, or else.......
Like my father, many people were deceived by Nkrumah, and none of those people who started with him and supported him remained free from his indiscriminate imprisonment.
The purpose of my work here is to ensure that Nkrumah's role in history is clear and devoid of propaganda so that the errors of the past are not couched in righteous terms for repetition in the future. And nothing anybody says or does will change this mission. I am fairly young, but at least I know that had I written any of the things I have written here under Nkrumah's regime, I would be rotting in a narrow cell to be finally killed just like J.B Danquah. Leave me alone to breath the air of true freedom and justice which J.B. Danquah and the rest bequeathed to you and me, and which my father Kwasi Agyei (born 1896) never had the opportunity o enjoy.

Any Ghanaian born in 1948 or earlier would have studied some of these events in Civics immediately before and after independence. In Primary School in the Central Region, we read these things in Mfantse from "Nkwantabisa."
The events from 1960 onward unfolded as we matured in secondary school, exactly as Dr SAS has described them. Some parts of the language apart, let any Ghanaian who is 64 years or older dispute the basic thesis of this article!

In general, the Nkrumaist position is doomed ab initio: they must defend the misbehavior of a tyrant and a traitor...his imprisonment without trial, his declaration of one party state, his conferment of the power to overrule court judgments, his declaration of life presidency....
Even for an attorney professionally trained to defend both sides of an argument, I pity the awkward and contradictory position of the Nkrumaists. I really don't know of any leader that incarcerated both his foes and allies alike like Nkrumah, or went all out on a suicide mission to fatally doom his own presidency as Nkrumah did. And if any other leader committed one percent of Nkrumah's evil deeds, his followers would be up in arms against that person. Remember how they profusely cite the injustices under Busia and Kufuor's regimes to cast them as non-democrats and to justify Nkrumah's cruelty to Ghanaians?
But their position regarding Nkrumah is understandable because they were indoctrinated to imbibe the propaganda that Nkrumah does no wrong, and that Nkrumah never dies. Fortunately for all of us, these people who are old and decrepit will soon die off with their shibboleth.
But you and I, the younger generation, have a duty to dissect the truth, and let it guide our actions. We must confess that PDA was wrong, that life presidency was wrong, that dismissal of judges was wrong, that betraying friends who helped you was wrong, that indoctrinating children to snitch on their parents was wrong, that putting your effigy on a currency was wrong, that destooling chiefs and appropriating their titles was wrong.....If we don't do this, my greatest fear is that somebody else will find a "good excuse" to abolish our freedoms and hard-earned rights.
Nkrumaists must confess all Nkrumah's evil deeds here, or else make a fool of themselves by defending them. In the end, that is how they can gain salvation. This is because the typical Ghanaian's crippled intellectual ability, gullibility and vulnerability and lack of creativity all descend from the Nkrumah heritage which indoctrinated us in early childhood and made us receptacles to fakery and bad doctrines and took away from us the ability to ask questions and analyze incisively. So when the Ghanaian is deceived by the fake pastors and political leaders or shamans and witchdoctors and online scammers, the source of his child-like faith and acceptance of the impostors' deception is traceable to his young pioneer days, when the end all and be all of his life is to subserve his intellect to the worship of a conceptual idol, and to praise and serve him for life.
This is the time to free ourselves from the psychological shackles imposed on our minds by the great dictator, and to analyze and criticize and scrutinize these old assumptions which the great deceiver has implanted in our conscience, making it impossible for us to decipher the good from the bad, the ugly and the evil.

You live and have lived in an equivalent of a ghanaian public toilet and you pretend your sense of smell is insulted by the fermented apples in somebody's yard? Get real. All the faults of Nkrumah can be laid at the feet of Abraham Lincoln, Oliver Cromwell, Washington, Bismark etc. Any leader of a new born nation or a nation facing seditious enemies within is saddled with same problems. A white intellectual would have seen that and not even brought it up. But a black man is soo stupid that even after all his education he fails to contextualize the situation so he can use it as a weapon against his enemies.

Dr. SAS, we all know you have an inexhaustible repository of raw hatred for Nkrumah, and by your own confession, have been imbibing such gross irascible cultish enmity from your own father who had some beef to pick with Nkrumah. So, we might just excuse your rage and rant against all who share some sympathy for Nkrumah.
However, you have no moral justification for insulting all who do not prostrate themselves before you, and blindly obey your corrupted dictates to shed those sympathies for the late President. What you wrote in this article is nothing more than a calculated reiteration of the bunch of lies you have been shoving down our throats.
Now, the use of Bombs by the Opposition to kill and maim people under the dubious pretext of targeting only Nkrumah began long before the Kulungugu episode. I do not know how old you are and whether you were old enough to learn first-hand the many bombs that had been tossed around by the Opposition before 1963, in Accra and elsewhere.
Besides, the bomb-throwing was not the only vicious, savagery acts of violence that the Opposition in those had settled to unleash on the People and qualified for any harsh reaction from the incumbent Government.
In 1958 that the PDA was enacted, Ghana was still not a sovereign Nation yet and had the British Monarchy still wielding Judicial authority in the Ghana. If the PDA was not justified, it would have been forced down off the instruments of Justice.
But for want of time I would take break here till later.

Hahahaha, write, IDIOTIC language not idiot language, Vamoose with your donkey-flu, you knuckleheaded, cattle-fondling, jock strap-slurping, toe jam-sucking, zit-nibbling, cunt-headed cockweasel!
You came up with that by yourself? Or you picked it from your mum's twat?
