The next time you send an article to ghanaweb, do not identify yourself as "Dr." something. It is pretentious and pompous and meant, falsely, to tell the unsuspecting reader that what your argument has greater weight because you happen to have a PhD. The intelligent reader will value your article on its merits only - the points raised to support your argument, not on your qualification. You should value that more than your attempt to "frighten" off readers by telling them you are a holder of a PhD.
Never forget that ghanaweb is NOT an academic forum and you are NOT at an academic conference or submitting a paper to an academic journal. Calling yourself Dr is needless in these circumstances and just asserts your pursuit of vanity.
Cut that "Dr" thing out. You're not the only one who has it who come to ghanaweb. Right now, there is a lot of hullabaloo about "Dr"(?) SAS on this forum because of his projection of his own vanity!!!
A little humility will be good for all of us here.

What difference does it make? is it the contents of the article or the title that should concern you? Personally my friends call me by my first name, even my students which I don't mind. Those who know me also know that I am not obssessed by my title nor do I regard it as something to use to show off. Sorry, I don't belong to that club and whether I append it to an article or not makes no difference to me personally. But please note that unlike others, with all due respect I am entitled to use that title.

Paul, if the use of Dr does not make any difference to the contents of the article, why do you feel "compelled" to use it? Is it not better to drop it so that people will not be influenced in their assessments of the contents by your introduction of yourself as Dr?
You are a Ghanaian and you know well how our people like using titles to seek undue influence in many spheres of life and raise themselves above their fellow citizens. This is exactly the problem we are facing with SAS.
As you said in your other comment, this is not an academic article presented in an academic forum. Then why the need to use an academic title?
I am one of those who think that on ghanaweb, we should all be Ghanaians interested in the affairs of the motherland. We should not seek to use our degrees to indicate that we are more qualified (and therefore better?) Ghanaians than other visitors on this site. We should let the arguments we present talk for themselves, unaided by the degrees we carry.
The foreign countries in which we get these degrees do not even make so much noise about such things.

Teacher, sadly some Ghanaians don't feel fulfilled unless they affix their professions to their names. To my dismay, I just learned that engineers in Ghana also add "eng" or "ing" to their names. If this is not vanity gone wild, you tell me. All my friends in the US have every advance and professional degrees imaginable, but we hardly address each other with these degrees. To us, degrees are means to make a living and nothing more. So I am embarassed when SAS and others like Paul want to be known by their degrees or profession before. Our names will simply do the trick and is about time our country folks stop this nonsense wstop

You could've compressed your articles into one and still make your point. Even though it's good to illustrate your point with examples from happenings outside the environs of your readers, I think it's needless to use a whole column to narrate a story that does not resonate well with your readers. Remember there are a lot of articles and news items to read from this website so spare your readers the boredom of reading a lengthy story.

We're inherently different and our choices vary for many reasons. This website is a democracy and each one of us has just one vote. You don't speak for anyone but yourself so why don't you keep the tutorage for your personal digestion. Allow every person the opportunity to decide for themself what to read and what not to read. Just keep it cordial and civil but democratic.

My good friend, if you want to read "academic articles" then you are surely in the wrong place. I agree with you, this is NOT and academic article and it is NOT MEANT to be. I regard this as a Social Medium although I realise some people are determined to turn it into a "tabloid" piece and were we to allow that to take over this platform, it would a great pity!!
I commend ghanaweb for allowing all voices to be heard, but my article is precisely about the very 'lowering of standards' of our public discourse, behaviour and the way we treat others that I am trying to put across here.
Frankly it is unhelpful to readers if all you see is an opportunity to criticise when there is plenty of food for thought for everyone, myself included.

I also post articles here and readers give their opinions about it-favorable or unfavorable.

If that is your story to his piece, then why the above complains before your sudden subtle gesture? What I find interesting with the ilk like yourself is your collective selectivity to articles in here. Now then, a particular serial writer is championing the pages in this our little corner "tabloid" we called Ghanaweb.
Yet, here you are selectively chastising Dr. Paul Amuna for not compressing his articles into some conformation for reading comfort. Whilst however, no gesture has ever registered from your side telling same to serial writer and the other relentless and lengthy writers parading in here daily.

I normally find it hard to understand why some readers abnormally attack authors instead of the substance of the material being read. The presenter has told us a story and readers have the right to disprove his story. Anybody reading it who has a bit of arrogance in him/her simply needs to learn a lesson as to how low pride can bring us. Our penchant for insulting authors who simply want to share their opinions on the net is becoming too worrisome.Let us always strife to comment on issues and not personalities. I pleasantly request the author for more of such educative stuff.

And don't ask me for constructive criticism because I offered that in my first comment but as it is typical of African intellectuals, they twisted it to mean a personal attack on the writer. You should understand that once you put an opinion in the public domain you no longer have control over how such an opinion is consumed by the public. You can defend yourself, though.
