Reminds us of the recent trips by Mr. Mahama to Qatar and Kenya, even as idiotic Mugabe who lost all Rhodesia treasures mocks Ghana, and Mr. Mahama himself clings to the infant Kenyatta, protesting with him that the International Court of Justice should leave the latter alone.
Meanwhile, Kenyatta is arresting members of the press in Kenya, for no democratic/lawful reasons whatsoever!
Thanks, Dr. Ayittey!

I very much doubt it if you would have agreed with the professor if he had mentioned the widespread promotion of ethnocentric bigotry by some African leaders like the fake revolutionary JJ Rawlings and his good-for-nothing henchmen like you who profess to be "Pan Africanist" but can't even tolerate any ethnic groups other than yours in your own country.
Nkrumah would be turning in his grave every time he 'hears' names like yours and that of the "vampirical murderer" Rawlings' associated with Pan Africanism.

In my humble opinion, what is really destroying Africa is our never-ending, impulsive, and addictive tendency to DESCRIBE, DISCUSS, and DEBATE problems. That is all we do!
Why shouldn't George tell us in great detail, HOW we should start reversing those negative trends he has nicely outlined? Should every African get a brain transplant?

I am about to go to bed and so can't do justice to Prof Ayittey's usual rendition of abstract and false empiricism.
When he mentioned the pre-colonial era, he should have mentioned the then African leaders were also busy destroying African on a gargantuan scale through the slave trade. Most of the markets he mentioned had slaves as their most important item on sale. Take the closed Salaga market for instance, reported to by travellers tales to have a pop. of about half a million, it was one of the biggest slave markets in Africa. There was nothing like free trader with all commons allowed in to buy slaves and other items. That privileged was reserved for the Dagbon overlords and their supreme protector, the Asantes! Ayittey, when are you going to write some historical truths, instead of false renditions?
The textile mills were set up in Lesotho, etc,. by the Chinese, etc. in order to evade the export embargo on them by the US. Was that embargo was lifted and the Chinese can export directly to the US, they packed their machines and went back to China! It is not the fault of the leaders of Lesotho. The items were being manufactured for export.
The African one party system was not idiotic. Called the Third World variant of democracy, scholars like Prof. Macpherson had written that it was closer to the original Greek democracy, but above all, it was closer to the African consensual or consocial system of democracy which does not recognise organised adversaries, as the adversarial pluralist system of the West does. That the idea was bastardised and the kind of free and open dialogue in the village square without repercussions was suppressed is besides the point.
Ayittey, why did Africa make some progress under white colonial rule, when the relations of some us tagged as collaborators assisted the colonialists to rule?
We need a sociological analysis of the origins of Africa's post-indep leaders in order to unearth why they have been behaving as they do.

In those days recounted, true Africans stayed on the continent and actively participated in industry, education, health, cultural development etc. Today the so-called African professors are only re-locating to the west, behave like fifth grade educated westerners, look down upon their own kinsmen and women and frown upon their own African culture and tradition and refer to them as primitive. They speak with accent not understood even by the queen. They dress sharply in western clothes in the sun and eat Fufu with cutlery. They have wine glass, beer mug, champagne glass, tumbler etc and don't even remember the calabash. At best they are all talkatives and know all that is wrong with Africa but have not a single solution. Shame on them.

What history is that about "those days"?
How does a community develop recycling same tired, old, ideas within, without external input.
How does a community develop recycling money/resources within, without external trade and relations?
How many of the so-called "fathers of Ghana" stayed at home and became "fathers" of Ghana?
Let's get perspectives right!
What is difficult about genuinely finding ways to bring back the so-called "professors" to participate "in industry, education, health, cultural development"? What can you tell us about what the government is doing on that score?
When did success migrating overseas to achieve anything worth achieving, and as a result assisting in reducing the pressures of youth and adult employment within, when did all that become painful to you and your kind?
Come on, Ms. Serwaa Serwas, K'si!
Get your history and reality right!
