"The Dormaa people are reputed to have brought fire to Ghana". Seriously? Are we for real? What sort of history is that? Please, go back and check on your history before someone starts ridiculing the Dormaas. All we know is that the people were led to their present place by a dog with fire. The Dormaa Senior Secondary School emblem has a dog with fire in the mouth. Never heard that they were the first to bring fire to Ghana. It sounds weird. There were people living in the present day Ghana before the Dormaas arrived from Akwamu. How did the Akwamus, the Akyems, Adansis and the earlier settlers cook their food?

Fire. They brought fire. Dormaa kusi did not bring anything to ghana. All they are known for is fighting their Akwamu and asante brothers. Dormaa people are troublesome. In Ghana, Dormaa people are known for their crazy attitudes. THATS THE TRUTH. And Dormaa belongs to Wamfehene because it was his land first.

This festival is culture at its best. It is in fact a demonstration of the Akan culture that epitomises the history, beliefs and African traditional religion of the Dormaa people. I witnessed this festival on a few occasions as a kid, growing up in Dormaa Ahenkro.
At the time, I did not appreciate the cultural significance. It was scary but fascinating. Seeing people carrying stools and other paraphernalia said to be possessed with the spirit of the dead and having supernatural energy and exhibiting behaviours that looked more alien than anything imaginable.
Sadly, our traditions, especially that relating to religion, have been adulterated beyond repair. In place of our ancestral beliefs, con men and women masquerade as pastors and extort money from the vulnerable and the mentally weak with impunity.
I would have loved to see this again but I am unfortunately so far away.
