Governing in Ghana under NDC is all about deceit and 'opium of the people'. They enjoy everything under the sun but ask us to wait for the basics in heaven. They are even asking us to wait for utopia in three years after squandering six years in power. The truth is that, everything they promise is a mirage and we will never find comforts with them because; they are conmen with con plans.

Any Tunisian or Burkinabee-syle revolution in this country will have to start from the parliament as it happened in Burkina Faso. Our parliamentarians are so hopeless that the Executive can easily manipulate them to deplete our coffers or even become dictator. If someone hadn't blown the whistle about the GNPC's $700mln dubious loan, the booty could have been shared and squandered without our notice. And our Parliament should have been at the forefront calling for the CEO to resign.
Obviously, Ghanaians are still not hearing the whole story, and we may never know exactly what the money was going to be used for. We believe that GNPC would have hurriedly approached the parliament for approval, if the massaged justification given by the CEO was really true and the company had nothing to hide.
This whole thing smells like a stinking rot, and the so-called representatives of the people, hired and over paid to examine and authorize expenditure, must live up to expectation and do their work properly. They have a duty to make sure that the dubious loan is either cancelled or used for the intended purpose, and not allow it to go down the drain into the pockets of stomach politicians and their cronies as usual.

Mr. Kwesi Pratt, could you remember that Nkrumah used to incite workers to strike against the Whiteman, but outlawed strikes in his regime when living conditions were genuinely difficult for workers, and said that strikes were unpatriotic?
Could you also remember that Rawlings used to incite TUC workers to strike against Liman's government in order to over throw it fraudulently? And could you remember that he used to take 'Kenkey' to Legon to demonstrate how the size had shrunk under Liman, and we ended up in the "Rawlings's Chain" but nobody could talk? Could you further remember that Acheampong and Rawlings used the mild IMF conditions under Busia and Liman respectively as justifications for overthrowing their governments deceitfully? Could you still remember that PNDC reintroduced IMF and the World Bank with more stringent conditions after the coup without apologizing to Liman?
I don't know what the leftists are talking about, and I don't believe that NPP is behind the present wave of strikes either. As far as I know, NPP is only highlighting the failings and excesses of the government, hopping to translate them into votes for the party in the next elections. And that is, in fact, genuine and legitimate politics because the failings are true and not false. Everybody in Ghana knows that cost of living under the NDC government is unbearable, and NPP is democratically seizing the opportunity to convince the electorate not to vote for NDC in the next elections.
Frankly, I don't see anything wrong with an opposition highlighting the failings of an incapable government to wrestle power from it democratically. NDC is the cause of the strikes because of higher levels of corruption, over spending, reckless borrowing and economic mismanagement that have brought untold hardship on Ghanaians.

If writing such rubbish and utter nonsense is all what freedom of speech is about, then I beg to live in pre free libel state of Ghana. All countries around the world are going tnrough a bit of rough times, even china is struggling to acheive 7 percent growth not to talk about the west where the best for year is 1.2 percent. Greece, Spain, Italy, ireland, iceland, Portugal, brazil, USA and I can go on and on all have some form of turbulence and most have been bailed out by china in one way or the other. The point is their citizen are rallying around the goverments with constructive comments and suggestions and not brainless banters and baby cries like this. Tell us what you will have done differently in their shoes instead of puking around. In anycase the increment is only 3.2 percent at the highest for a any petroluem product as I understand it unless you can prove that you have bought fuel 17.5 percent higher than pre budget announcement, please for the love of Ghana shut your trap. My grand ma said to me once that anytime I said someone's mouth is smelling, I should check mine first because my nose is closet to my mouth

Damptey, let me tell you that your write-up does not make a bit of sense to any right thinking human being.
Is President Mahama going to pocket the money to be raised from the petroleum tax? It is simply not good for Ghana to always go borrowing. Government needs money to perform its functions, workers have to be paid at the end of every month, where do you expect the government to go and STEAL THE MONEY to perform such legitimate functions?
Do you have to fault the government for marginally increasing the prices of petroleum products with the view of raising some revenue to keep government business going? Damptey, the HYPOCRITE, tell me, how many times did President Kufuor reduced the prices of petroleum products due to a fall in the world market price?
When are some of you going to learn to stop this petrol politics. Are you telling me it makes sense to you for prices of petroleum products to be reduced only for unpatriotic citizens to smuggle them to other countries?
As for petroleum and its price, no government can run away from it. You can be hypocritical by accusing today's government of being insensitive for not reducing the prices of petroleum products. But the fact remains that what accounted for that may not change tomorrow with another government in place.
Let us stop this petroleum hypocrisy to help the country to develop.
