ANY "EDUCATED" PERSON THAT CAN READ ENGLISH WITH UNDERSTANDING CAN SEE THE LOOMING DANGER OF THIS PLANT BREEDERS BILL TO OUR FOOD, ECONOMIC AND POLITICAL SOVEREIGNTY. YET THE NORTHERNERS ARE BENT ON SELLING OFF GHANA TO FOREIGN MULTINATIONALS FOR PITTANCE IN THEIR FOREIGN BANK ACCOUNTS. JOHN MAHAMA, DR. ALHASSAN, ABU SANKARA AND BAGBIN HAVE ALL BENEFITED FROM MONSANTO'S AND CARGIL'S "BRIBES".
"GHANA" WOULD HAVE BEEN SO FAR AHEAD WITHOUT OUR GREEDY AND THIEVING NORTHENERS.

Hi Nana Oben,
Go away with your tribalistic tantrums! The struggle against the imposition of GMOs and the Plant Breeders' Bill has nothing to do with a conflict between the North and the South!
The Biosafety Act that is to allow GMOs into the country was introduced into Parliament in 2004 by the Kufour Administration! The John Atta-Mills signed it into law!
Currently, the ONLY matter Nana Akufo-Addo is refusing to comment on is the Plant Breeders' Bill! He is behaving as if he has been paid to keep quiet!
The only political opposition I have seen to the Bill is coming from the CPP. It appears, just like the Biosafety Act, both the NPP and the NDC, Northerners or Southerners, are in bed to sell us out!
Open your eyes! Don't be blinded by baseless ethnocentricism. This is a matter of your health, our environment, and national security!
We are being betrayed by a corrupt political class in the dominant parties. Even in the CPP, Abu Sakara is there to undermine them! Don't allow them to win by wrong analysis!
Forward Ever! Backwards Never!!!

For centuries farmers in Ghana own their own seeds and plant them, even when they get the seeds from the Ministry of Agriculture. However there is a situation now that when I eat tomato and defecate in the forest the seed can not germinate. Or even when it germinates it can not bear fruit. Thus it means that plant breeders are destroying the natural ability of plants to germinate and bear fruit whenever they fall on good soil. In the same way it is vain for me to think that throwing pepper and tomato seeds from my waste water unto my backyard garden will yield food has become a dream.
We are being told that when a person who did not buy his seeds from the seed breeder and the latter suspects that the crop in his farm resembles his or her, he or she can take action in the courts to seize the crops he or she suspects to resemble his or hers.
We have seen the arrangement by which Ghana gets her gas from Nigeria to produce electricity and that though there is an agreement the parties in Nigeria have breached it with impunity.
Thus Ghana's agriculture when left in the hands of the crop breeder will become a hostage in their hands in several ways, it could be used as a political tools to destabilize the country's socioeconomic activity.
What steps are being taken to enable the farmer to save his traditional seed so that in the case of disagreement between him and the plant breeder he could go back into in barn remove the seeds and plant them.

Why do we have to change everything that God has made? It is one thing to cook our food, but to change the genetic makeup of a plant! What is worse, it is in order to take control of food production. God created food before creating human beings. He gave food away freely. Thank God we still have air to breathe. God will find a way for us to survive.

It is pity there is no large scale opposition to the sell-off Petroleum and Gas Bill too. It is a looming disaster to Ghana's future econ well being.

GM giant Monsanto is effectively pulling out of Europe after years of delays in trying to secure approval for ‘Frankenstein food’ crops.
The US-based company is dropping all of its requests to launch insect and pesticide-resistant forms of corn, sugar beet and soya beans.
Campaigners said Monsanto had simply realised that the vast majority of people in Europe would not eat the foods.Ghanaian politicians are hell bent on signing our destiny away.

Anti-GM campaigners have welcomed a decision by biotechnology giant Monsanto to pull out of the European seed cereal business.
The announcement came as the Government published its report into GM crop trials and its effects on the environment and wildlife.
Monsanto, the huge US company that has pioneered GM crops, issued a statement which announced its "intention to exit from its European cereal seed business".
The closure of the firm's multimillion research operation in Trumpington, Cambridge, is expected to result in the loss of up to 80 highly skilled jobs.
Friends of the Earth (FoE) hailed the announcement as a victory for anti-GM campainers.
