The proposals put forward by IEA for constitutional reforms are the best possible ways of strengthening our democracy. Anybody criticizing or unwilling to accept them must have some myopic and self-serving agendas that are not in the interest of Ghana and its development. Our week institutions can easily produce "constitutional dictatorship" difficult to get rid of.
Those who have genuine alternative ideas and views regarding the issues raised should come out clean and tell us what they have, and not hide behind to sabotage their adoption. These proposals in our view would reduce partisan politics and also strengthen democracy and the rule of law in our country. On the other hand, if we dare reject them or drag our feet, we will continue to grope in darkness with disastrous consequences.

Of course, if a leader is doing something good, we should say it. But as a general rule, we should stop praising our leaders especially for doing things that should be normal for any leader to do.
If some people are bent on discrediting the government because they want, themselves, to be the ones in government, we should strive to set the records straight. But as a general rule, let's stop praising our leaders - no matter whether they are NDC or NPP.
We should always be more interested in what our leaders are not doing well than what they are doing well. We should be more critical of our leaders, even when we think they are doing well.
The issue is not all that Mahama is doing well but how much more he could have been doing given our present favourable circumstances.
The man has done done absolutely nothing about corruption from his own office through his ministers to the public and civil services. We should be more interested in this lapse than if he is cutting sods to start work on the Nkrumah overpass or Tamale Airport.
Vital infrastructural projects are a must for every government, not something a particular government should be praised for doing.
Please, set the records straight but do not be over-praising Mahama for doing things which should be normal for every serious government. Talk rather about the things he should be doing which he is not doing.

All that he talks about does not really make sense, but because he is the unfortunate boss of IMANI, he talks as if he has wisdom than any person in Ghana. He should travel and he would find himself nothing to be recognize. He is a nuisance and must be ignored.

This writer writes only good english but not real economic analysis. The examples you gave are not indicators for any substantial economic growth. Real, effective and prudent fiscal policies are the answer. You didn't touch on corruption. This cancer is eating away Ghana's society in every sense. Almost all the government institutions and the presidency itself are wallowing in corruption. You forgot about inflation which now satnds above 14%. Upgrading the airport at Tamale is a good idea. I agree with you, but see it more in terms of potential economic growth rather than easing the woes of Hajj pilgrimage. This international airport will serve not only Ghana, but Burkina Faso and part of Ivory Cost as they travel internationally. This will benefit Ghana economically. What is Mahama doing about the abandoned highway projects of the NPP? These projects if completed with benefit the country as a whole. Why abandon them and start building new ones because the other party initiated them? Kufour took Ghana to HIPC because he inherited huge debt and gasping economic hole. He has nothing to start with, however he was able to make Ghana attain the middle-level income economy, even though there was no oil revenue coming in. Now Ghana is a producer of oil, yet we are going back in terms of economic growth. What was the exchange rate for the cedi during the last days of Kufour's government? You write very good poetry and literature but a good economic analyst. By the way Mensah Otabil never prophesied that the cedi will fall to GHC10 by christmas. He said if the government DOES NOT put in good economic measures the cedi would fall by that level by the close of the year. Don't put words in his mouth just because he is critical about the government. Is it bad for a citizen of a country to be critical about the policies of his/her government? By your own assertion Otabil is a very good businesman. This makes him even more qualified to talk on the economy. He knows how to manage businesses and people. These are good qualities as a leader.

YOUR QUOTE:
"Indeed if you happen to pass the area today, even if you continue not to give Mahama any credit whatsoever, your heart will surely gladden that the project is on course and that its completion will help in solving one of the major road logjams in the country."......
Yes! referring to KWAME NKRUMAH CIRCLE - Right?
What would have been good for Mahama to do, befitting the 'THE GREATMAN'S CIRCLE' (if I can put it that way) was to have created funding from GHANA and used Engineers and all the necessary skilled workers from GHANA.
It's not only about wearing shoes made in Ghana. I hope you get my drift.
YOUR QUOTE:
"Imagine the huge relief and reduction of cost that will benefit tens of thousands of motorists who daily burn in traffic just by using the Kwame Nkrumah Circle when the project is commissioned next year."
With that, I may say it will only happen for a short period of time.
For as long as we continue to import many cars into the country without any sensible controls, we will end up where we begun. There must also be reasonable controls in place to check the unnecessary traffic jams.
Let me give you reasons why if the government had applied COMMON SENSE.....this entire project would not have been necessary and the money wisely spent on our HEALTHCARE system...........................
Coming all the way from GTV (formerly GBC) the jams can start from there....because the trotros stop anyhow, with okadas running riot and hawkers all over the place, all the way to the traffic lights at the Nima police station.
Go down past Bus Stop restaurant towards circle and the madness continues with traffic build up caused by taxis and trotros entering their stations, with others coming out to join the existing congestion on the road.
After that there is the pedestrian crossing, then towards the circle, comes the police, then after the circle comes another pedestrian crossing with a trotro station with vehicles vying to and from the stations on to the main road.......
Then comes the Neoplan station and then the railway crossing.....and then ahead to another set of traffic lights, with police and okadas jumping the red lights......
Nana Akua, don't you think this is a recipe for TRAFFIC JAMS????
So, my point is, we can build a million flyovers in Ghana but, if we do not apply COMMON SENSE in controlling everything we will go back to square one! (I hope you get my drift).
There's more to alleviating traffic jams, than just constructing flyovers, after flyerovers. Take a good look at the M1 - which was meant to do so.....................
NKRUMAH NEVER DIES!!!
GOD BLESS GHANA!
AFRICAN FOREVER!
