Mr. Nuhu and the so-called nuclear adherents are trying their utmost to sell to Ghanaians that " ... the panacea for the country' s perennial energy crises would only find expression in nuclear power generation."
To have nuclear power in the energy mix of Ghana, apart from the campaign to sell it to the nation as a sustainable option, the nuclear adherents and the Ghana Atomic Energy Commission must first conduct a thorough cost-benefit analysis of nuclear energy usage in the country, including cost-benefit analyses of the other options in the energy mix.
We must certainly find ways to end our unsustainable energy policy that tends to end in the usual dumsor-dumsor.

This is one of the best articles on the power generation issues Ghana is facing.
I'm only hoping that some one who is in the thick of these negotiations would happen unto or come across your article and take some pointers from your advice or suggestions.
"As a matter of fact, preparations to embark on any project that has the public as its key stakeholders must always be preceded by significant public education and, consequently, public acceptance before any further steps could be taken otherwise such a project would never see the light of day. This is especially true when the project under consideration is being surrounded by concocted mysteries and sheer misconceptions that are technically too difficult for the ordinary citizen to decipher. Oftentimes, when the public feels unsure about the potential benefits of a project, an obvious stance to adopt is but mount strong opposition as people are often highly apprehensive of the unknown. On the contrary, if the public is offered a platform to understand all the issues involved by way of mass education, public protest easily makes way for public acceptance and the project thus becomes a huge success."
The above paragraph captures everything in a nutshell.
Of course, availability of funds for the project must not be overlooked since this is a very expensive venture, not to mention the inherent harzards, despite the numerous advantages of such plants.

Good piece! but is anyone really paying attention to your useful write-ups on nuclear energy in Ghana? I am not surprise at all cos all your write-ups are devoid of politics, perhaps that's why no attention is accorded. Politics is what Ghanaians love most and therefore would stop at nothing to read any article that bears NDC or NPP in it. There is little appetite for such stone-alone articles like yours, devoid of politics in Ghana. Keep the good works by continuing to educate Ghanaians on nuclear energy though. Kudos!
